Description
Hello guysWell, studies from a big master!
John Singer Sargent, for me and for other artists, was certainly and is a great master of painting, his portraits simple and at the same time with defined and elegant shapes certainly became a great reference for study.
I have been using Sargent's works for a while as a study reference, but before that I didn't have as much 'awareness' of how to study his work.
Honestly, it is a little difficult to explain how an artist reference study works, because as we choose our 'masters' in art and study his works, we always want to take a little of what he has managed to do, and this is something very individual and single.
The best advice I can give you is: choose your masters and choose what you want to learn from each!
PS: the book 'How to steal as an artist' by Austin Kleon approaches this topic in a very interesting way, I recommend this reading, I will leave the link below if you are interested
