Description Here is my finished 1/35 trumpeter JGSDF Type 87 recon vehicle. the JGSDF stands for Japan Ground Self-Defense Force, witch is something I didn't know existed( learn something new every day huh!) here is a good wiki page with info on the the beast [link] (because i am lazy, and they do a better job than me explaining stuff) my wife picked out this kit, so she went with the crazy, and boy this thing looks crazy. it has some really weird dimensions and is pretty big and bulky for what it is( as tall as my Kv-2!) this thing looks to be a fine addition to my weird collection of armor.

Anyways this was a pretty fun kit and with a few minor complaints aside, was pretty nice, especially for the price($18.00 us) This was my first time doing a camo and while not the best came out better than I hoped, I really thought I was gonna screw it up big time. i did the whole camo by hand, and i mean free hand. the colors i used are not a 100% accurate but for me close enough. I ended up using "Model Masters" dark tan and medium green for the camo, a brown acyclic wash and pastels for dirt weathering.
the figurines came with he kit, and while being detailed, were just "default" ones, which i need to butcher a bit and do some a minor arm swaps.
the extras on this beast are stuff I found in my bits box, a random map printed from the internet, and guitar string antenna.
All in all I really like this crazy thing and finally doing a camo made me more comfortable doing them, so expect to see me do more camo in the future. this kit came with more figurines and looks kinda lonely on its own, I have been having some rough ideas on maybe a quick diorama/base for it.

yea its odd because both come up when googled. the box said "type 87" and is one of the first images on google but your right a SPAAG is allso called that too.

well it seems they have a Type recon and warning vehicle which is why it can be called the Type87

yup, trumpeter. not bad kits for the price. tons of busy work and some wonky designs, but i think they come out allright.

Lacking in "old change" i dont understand...if you mean weathering, i guess so. i am still new at tanks and have only been doing them under 1 year.

yea the price was very good. i have been trying out trumpeter lately and other than some minor complaining, their kits are fantastic! the build might not be as smooth as a tamiya but the end result and details are top notch.
and thanks, i was pretty happy with this build and to get a photo of it before the snow hits.

Trumpter kits really do have nice details. And you have to appreciate the subjects they take on. They have brought out a lot of 1/32 kits that I never thought would see the light of day!

i was hesitant at first to try one, had only worked on tayima but when i went to do a challenger 2 it was ether them($20) or tamiya($40+) so i said why not ill give them a chance. and boy was i impressed. i agree they have some very cool subjects they take on, even this one is something odd that you dont see often.

Nixod321 [2012-12-22 18:21:34 +0000 UTC]

The camo turned out very well! Great job! To improve the camo, I would only suggest either masking and airbrushing it, or thinning the paint and using a long bristled brush. But aside from that, this model is pretty much flawless.

enc86 In reply to Nixod321 [2012-12-22 18:28:20 +0000 UTC]

thanks man, means alot, it was my first time doing camo and i was wicked scared i would fail big time. hopefully i can get better over the next few months. masking is the next step for me, the air brush is still a ways off.
