Description When the United Colonies decided to start taking back the wasteland, they protected and extended their reach with outposts. Used as hard points in key strategic areas, the outposts severed as front line defenses against the wilds of the waste. The outposts were also used to sever as quick attack/response staging and planning areas. Loaded up with enough guns, any mutant or raider has to think twice before they try to take one on.

Here is my mostly finished 1/35 outpost for a diorama. Built up from a verlinden plaster building, bashed details, custom figures and bits bin details. Hand painted with enamels and weathered with acrylics. I say mostly done because it still needs more posters (which I will add once I get an operational printer) fat top coat and pastels but I'll wait till it's on the diorama base for those. Feel like after being sick that I am starting to stall out on this, so it's time to call it done and move on.
Anyways this project took around 3 weeks, and while not as great as I hoped I am satisfied with it. Before I get it on a base and work on the overall diorama, I think I will be taking a break from the diorama project and do a couple quick, easy and fun kitbahses.

As always questions, comments and suggestions welcome!

First impression: Β It needs a coffee machine. Β

(Well, the one guy IS standing there looking at his empty cup. )

I like all the different window coverings. Gives it a definite look of, "Whatever fits!" Β

(The raised base of the lookout tower is a little... odd. Β Any reason why the two legs don't reach all the way to the ground?)

Β it really does need a coffee machine...next time i will not forget. you can tell by that one guy, they are really getting sick of instant coffee XD

yup the tower legs, yea i have them. in one of the WIP's you can see them. i had to extend the tower legs with wood, and they did touch the ground. but when moving the outpost around i broke them off, i have them but figured i would wait till i get it on the base to re-attach.

I figured the legs were an "in process" issue... Β just looked a little odd.

Yeah, coffee... Β especially stuck out at the edge of the wasteland. Β Gotta remember those important thing in life.

Is the turret scratchbuilt? Nice details!

not scratchbuilt, bashed. it was an older toy(and in very rough shape) just fixed it up, added bits and gave it some paint(should of taken pics before hand)

Oh, okay,I wasn't aware that between bashed and scratchbuiltΒ is a difference.

enc86 In reply to SarienSpiderDroid [2014-02-13 12:08:58 +0000 UTC]

sometimes the difference can be pretty slim or dependent on ones definition.

for me scratch built is from scratch or building from nothing.

kitbashing, is taking existing parts/pieces and using them together to make something new.

tho i have heard alot of people refer to "scratch built" as what i think of kitbahsing.

Beautiful work, but that big honkin gun on the roof?

I would not want to be standing under that thing when this outpost comes under fire.

enc86 In reply to master-ninjabear [2014-02-12 16:53:37 +0000 UTC]

thanks!

lol i was thinking that, almost too big, and it might crumble the building.

master-ninjabear In reply to enc86 [2014-02-13 03:52:04 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, but what to do about it?
I'd put a pole under it, running the height of the building through the floor, to a base plate on ground level.

Not hard to believe they would bring it to the roof in pieces, and a support column of some kind would be part of the kit.

enc86 In reply to master-ninjabear [2014-02-13 11:54:37 +0000 UTC]

hummm that would work and probably could be done even at this point. ill have to try to do that when i get it on the base!

lol little pea shooter, ill have to go BIGGER next time. yea they defiantly need something in front. i had a door i was working on, but was one of those things that got left in the box. might have to whip something up when i get it on the base.
