Description
So my camera has been having some major issues as of late. so after some profanity and light violence, I got it working again but needed to test its capabilities. So i did a little photo shoot with my recent diorama base and a figurine. thought this shot was kinda neat and decided to share.no real story behind this but it does kinda look like someone shouted "smile you smug s.o.b"

HI... (enc86) is has good lighting , you buy the props or you make them ?

enc86 In reply to Boias [2013-02-23 19:07:29 +0000 UTC]
yea the lighting can be tricky but over the course of a year(i have only been taking photographs of my work for a year) i have got much better at it. in this shot i made the boards for the windows and the propaganda posters from scratch. everything else came from different things but still had to be painted/weathered.
some props are from kit/sets and some are stuff i make myself. in the last few months i have been making more and more of the details myself.

my camera is not the best ether, it had a nasty "lens error" a few months back and has never been the same.
thank you, i am pretty good at weathering but by no means a master.

yea its one of my favorite parts of a project. its less about technique and more about style or artistic eye.

Great pic, although if I could have offered any suggestions, maybe you could have zoomed in a bit more to really make it realistic looking. Otherwise fantastic

thanks dude! here is one zoomed a little closer [link] think any closer and it really wouldn't look too great, the way i paint them they look good from a certain distance then crap lol.

Really something. Actually made me think of real war photography where soldiers are standing smiling amidst all the horrors of a battlefield. A bit surrealistic and alienating.
Now I haven't yet looked closely to your other diorama's but I noticed something in this particular photo, or is actually missing in my view. It is a bit clean alltogether. Meaning that in war time sceneries like these,in my memory, should look more dirty, covered in soot and smoke. (curb and gutter look like sh*t in my area even when there no war going on here )The gloss kind of contradicts the obvious damage to the house and door. Hope you see what I mean. Otherwise I like very much what you did, it's not your standard image, it's even funny in a way and he detailing and dimensions are perfect. I was wondering if you made parts here yourself or do they come in kits? Ah I see a tutorial gallery, I ll go overthere for the FAQ's, sorry!

thanks man, i was going for surrealistic. glad you liked it!
yea i totally get what your saying, and on most of my stuff it is something that i have not been able to accomplish yet. sometimes its just trying to finish up a project or lack of pastels, but most of my stuff has that UN-even,gloss, not quite reality look. its defiantly something i have seen myself in my work, and know its something i have to work on. i started making dioramas/military stuff about feb of this year(2012) and going into 2013 is on my list of things to get better at. the one good thing is most of my stuff is weird so that surreal/UN-natural look doesn't detract too much sometimes. most people dont notice the rocks are weird colored and glossy, when Hitler is jumping a shark. or the ground cover is not of scale and odd, when a tank is running a guy over.
as for stuff i build/add, a lot of stuff comes from kits tho smaller details and such i do make on my own. cigarettes, propaganda posters ect i craft myself. hopefully in the new years ill get more into scatchbuilding. and going into the new year i have alot more tutorials planed as well.
anyways thanks again for the wonderful comment and criticism, i really appreciate it. its always good to hear from someone about what they noticed, helps me see things in a different light.

Well, since you've only started recently, I can only be more impressed with your work. I saw later on some other diorama's and I like them very much, the absurdity is funny and original. I'm a big fan of the absurdistic, be it serious or funny.
I may have another idea for you but it takes a lot of time, planning and it should of course be something you would like to do anyway. My son, 10 years of age, uses his nintendo 3ds to make funny little stopmotion films. I think that your diorama's triggers the storyteller in me because they form an excellent starting point to write little scenario's around.
Maybe this is something you could venture when you like the idea. Making little stopmotion movies...
But I do like the dioarama's as they are and are curious to what they will develop in, in future times. I'll be checking in from time to time. Have a nice Christmas with your family. Untill later times

well thank you again, for the kind words.
its has been suggested before that i try my hand at stop motion, and while the idea really interests me, for now i dont have the time or set-up for it. but hey i am a young man and will most likely get around to it at some point. what i love about building my dioramas is coming up with the back story and characters in my head while i build. its a stress reliever to not only build, but to come up with weird worlds and scenarios.
thank you again, in 2013 i will be trying some new things and try to tech my self some new techniques, so hopefully my overall quality will improve. look forward to chatting with you again at some point! have a great holiday!
-Shawn.

Looks awesome. I have those same posters, although you did a much better job of weathering them.I usually rip them a bit, as you did, but how did yours get all dull colored? Mine are still sorta shiny.
