UPDATE 27/07/2020: I feel like it is time to readdress some of the issues I've raised in this post. I know that Deviantart has been making some changes to Eclipse that have for the most part been for the better. We are all here with the best interests for this site and I would like to give some praise where it is due.
1. The cover image size is way better now.
2. The chat feature seems like it could be fun
1. The site feels way slower to operate than it did previously. I don't know if this is affected by external factors atm, but it feels like its struggling to keep up with my actions. Especially things like deleting notifications.
2. I still miss having the focus on individual artworks when they are being removed from your notifications. It feels like everything is vying for your attention when they are all bunched up.
3. My download button still needs a map to reach.
4. My download stats are still AWOL.
5. When placing an art in your favourites, it gives you only a very fleeting option to change collection. On this note the 'undo' feature doesn't seem to last long enough after your mistake in order to actually correct it. The drag and drop fave feature was great too. Please please please bring it back.
It's getting better - that's my main takeaway. It's just sad that a lot of people have left permanently because these factors weren't originally considered in the design. I still find myself using the site less because of it and I was on the cusp of leaving outright myself. My view is that these changes should have happened a little at a time if at all.
I tried so hard to like this update but I can't.
Here are some of my grievances:
- It rips off the layouts of other websites (sites that I didn't join because I preferred Deviantart's layout). It drenches the onlooker in darkness as a default - it's like entering a Hollister and I only ever want to leave shops like that. For a site that is supposed to be a safe space for creatives, stealing the whole format of your website is a little hypocritical.
- It is currently presenting images at a lower resolution than the old site.
- There is no flow to the art browsing. Proportions of the art pages mean that navigating is more difficult. It also makes it more difficult to read artists' comments and descriptions.
- You are now required to post a massive high rez image for a cover photo - pixel artists can apparently go to hell. It places all the focus on THAT piece of art, and the scope of your gallery becomes an afterthought.
- All previous work for coding artists has been completely nullified. This also kinda screws over people who paid for core with the promise of being able to customise exclusively. I saw a message about journal skins from a teammember with the gist of 'everyone has the right to pretty journals'. Since when?
Whilst I'm on the subject of making indirect demands, could you please up your game with the spam bots, copyright infringement and dick pics? I also want a helicopter.
Seriously though, it doesn't take long looking at the feedback www.deviantart.com/heidi/journ… to see that people aren't happy. They're not just resistant to change, they have laid out, often in great detail, why they are unhappy.

Try it from another angle. There are already some pretty good bases for redesigns out there www.deviantart.com/fairloke/jo… . Why hasn't anybody made an effort to meet halfway on any of these?
This is totally a rant, but I'm super disappointed after building up a base on this site for 6 years. I'm a resource maker and this feels crummy alongside the cut that deviantart already gets off my paid downloads. I'm seriously considering leaving, but more because of the fact that it can't be enjoyed anymore.
