Senrai Region Sixth Anniversary art. Here we have, from right to left: Ryuukyuu, Ryu-Yiangzhen, and...?It is said in the lore of Ryuukyuu that a population of its species gained Ice type characteristics over time on snowy mountains. This is Yangzhen, the fully evolved form of the ancestral species. Much more difficult to find than its descendant, it is pure Electric type, with Levitate. Akin to how Ryu-Yiangzhen's tails each represent a virtue to be acquired by touch, Yangzhen's tails each represent creativity, energy, longevity, rationality, righteousness, strength, and valor. Probably shouldn't touch it though -- you'd die of high voltage.
Ryu-Yiangzhen's evolution chain starts with Ryuki .

Reminds me slightly of Renamon from digimon, love the traditional feel to the evolution.

They all look really great. I guess a way to explain the branch with Vulpix going away over time is geographical isolation: due to living in vastly different habitats, the ancestor began to differ more and more until Ryuukyuu and Vulpix eventually became separate species.

That's actually quite interesting. I never bothered to think of something like that. It's like they went through a new type of evolution. I guess we can sorta call them a subspecies or something.

It's a biological phenomenon that caused them to alter so much they became two entirely different species altogether. In PokΓ©mon logic, though, they'd still both be in the Field Egg Group, so they can still breed.
