Description
My take on the real life appearance of two of the most famous French Saints.King Louis IX: based on accounts of his appearance and the Statue inside the Sainte-Chapelle. The eyes ended up a bit too large, compared to the statue.
Jeanne la pucelle: based on accounts of her appearance and the Statue of Saint Maurice for the face, which may have been done in her image.
Music:
'Chevalier, Mult Estes Guariz': a song in Old French, actually from the medieval period but not for Louis IX, but composed to Louis VII, encouraging the knights to partake and fight in the Second Crusade.
'Le Roi Louis': based on a song of the 17th century called 'La Fille au Roy Louis', which narrates a different story, not of the Crusades but about the King's daughter and her love for the knight Déon.
'Les Terres Saintes': composed by Jan Fronteau in 1992, about the Crusades.
"Le Roy Engloys": written half a century after the events, narrates about King Henry V of England during the Hundred Years' War.
'Chant à Sainte Jeanne d'Arc': a poem written by Saint Thérèse of Lisieux on 1894, and later set to music by Vincent Lecornier.
