Story:

"I told you you'd get scratched!", Scarlett said as she crossed her arms, glaring at her human companion.

"Well at least I'm not crying about it!", the visitor replied, raising an eyebrow at the tall fox.

Shortly after Rhonin's sudden reappearance, the guards had swarmed the gardens to assist their mistress as they had heard her cry. Much to their surprise, they were greeted by their believed deceased master, who immediately ordered them to release their captive human and vixen. The visitor and Scarlett had then been relocated to a guest room in the mansion where their injuries had been treated.

Scarlett had fortunately only received a bruise from the hit she had received during the questioning. The visitor was not as lucky. Deep cuts from Ronja's claws were running from the back of his jaw and reaching across the left side of his face, leaving him with a nasty gash. The healer that had tended to his injuries had placed a herb compress on the wound to stop the bleeding and help it heal. Albeit the bleeding had stopped, the visitor was instructed to keep the compress in place until the next day to avoid the wounds from getting infected.

Now the duo was simply waiting, as Rhonin had told them to stay in the guest room until he had finished talking to his sister.

Scarlett gave the visitor's right arm a friendly punch. "I have to admit, you're tougher than you look, shorty!"

The visitor flinched as pain shot through his arm, still not having recovered from Ronja's previous crushing grip. "Ouch! Knock it off will you!?", he gave Scarlett a push with his left arm.

Laghing, Scarlett took advantage of the human's advance and pulled him in for a quick embrace. "Maybe I should take that back! Still, from now on let me be the one to put myself in harm's way, okay?", she gave the visitor an uncomfortable smile. "It was more than just a bit stressful watching you getting into trouble knowing I couldn't do anything to help, you know?"

The visitor understood it couldn't have been easy for Scarlett. After all, one of her strongest traits was being a team player, always standing by her friends regardless of the consquences. Still, couldn't she simply have broken free from the guards using her ability to control exothermic energies? This was something that had been bothering the visitor - during their time together she had not used her power a single time despite given plenty of scenarios where she could have.

"Scarlett, you're the chosen of Brinn! Couldn't you just have set yourself on fire or something and escaped the guards?", the visitor asked.

The amazon fox looked confused. "I'm not sure I understand what you're talking about.. And why would I ever set myself on fire!? Apart from hurting alot, anything smelling worse than wet fur is burnt fur!"

Her answer only provided more questions than answers. Even worse, the visitor thought, she didn't even know what he was talking about! Whether she was simply unaware of her powers or completely unable to use them, it was troubling news.

The conversation was suddenly interrupted as the sliding door to the room opened. Rhonin entered the room, closely followed by his sister.

Upon seeing the perpetrator of their suffering, Scarlett immediately took a defensive stand in front of the visitor - her eyes shooting a most hateful glare. "Are you stupid for real!?", she snarled at Rhonin. "You bring that sadistic freak here!?"

The female lynx shuffled uncomfortably as she was looking down into the floor, avoiding Scarlett's furious gaze.

Rhonin raised his paw, gesturing to the vixen to calm down. "I can assure you, she is of no harm to you any longer", he spoke with his usual calm tone. "She understands that what she has done is wrong and wants to apologize"

"Hah! I'm not falling for that one!", Scarlett was not convinced.

"I truly am sorry..", Ronja almost whispered from her place behind her brother, still looking into the floor.

Scarlett began advancing towards the female feline, ready for a fight. "Oh you'll be sorry once I'm done with you!"

Rhonin quickly stepped in and stopped the vixen in her place. "Calm yourself! More violence is not going to make the situation any better!"

"No, but it will help me feel better!", Scarlett growled as she tried to free herself from the lynx.

With Scarlett and Rhonin locked in their struggle, the visitor decided it was up to him to break the ice of the situation. He gathered what courage he could and walked around the fighting animals as he made his way towards Ronja.

"What are you doing!?", Scarlett exclaimed as she realized what the human was up to. "Get away from her!"

Ronja looked away as the visitor came up to her, feeling ashamed of the damage she had caused him. Despite her brother had brought her here to help her set things right she felt very out of place and didn't know how to handle the situation. She was scared.

Just like he had done with Rhonin when they first met, the visitor gently placed his hands behind Ronja's jaw, turning her head to face his.

The female lynx shut her eyes closed, refusing any eye contact. However, her behaviour didn't stop the visitor as he placed his forehead against hers.

"I'm willing to forget everything that has happened recently and start over", the visitor said gently. "But I can only do that if you're willing to do the same"

Scarlett and Rhonin had stopped their fighting as they stood by and watched with silent anticipation.

When Ronja didn't respond, the visitor spoke again. "This is me reaching out to you, trusting you, hoping that there is still a chance for all this to end under happy circumstances"

Still, there was no response from the feline. The visitor knew that, according to the customs Ronja was used to, if he at this rate continued the physical contact between them it would be considered a rude gesture.

He was about to let go when he suddenly felt something wet landing on his hands. It was tears, rolling down the lynx's cheeks. She was crying yet again.

Ronja carefully grabbed the visitor's hands and pulled his arms gently around her neck before proceeding to hug him close to her. "I would like that too..", she said quietly, her voice almost trembling.

The visitor smiled as he returned the hug and burried his head in the soft fur of Ronja's neck, igoring the stream of tears falling on his face.

Ronja smiled, her fear washing away as she enjoyed the feeling of being hugged. Many before had refused her the company she secretly longed for, simply because of the unsettling aura people claimed she had - something which had led to many years of solitude and hatred. Perhaps she would never accomplish her dream of expelling loneliness from the world, but at the moment she felt much closer to fulfilling her other dream of having a friend..
