A little crossover idea I had in mind, plus I'm inspired to write fanfiction regarding it (Don't know if I should make it a plot/choose your adventure like story). Since Gravity falls seems to be a magnet for supernatural and magical encounters, perhaps there was a way to reach the realm of Thra like some hidden portal.

Basically it could take place before the events of the series around the time when Ford first arrived to Gravity falls, writing the journals before summoning Bill and building the portal. While in Thra it could be around the time of the Garthim wars, many years before the movie.

In this scene is when he visits the Valley of the mystics and gathers information while sketching them, the gentle being don't mind and are more than happy to share their wisdom with him. Yet they speak in riddles, and Ford's bound to notice some melancholy in them.
