Description This year, 195X, new from Lionel! Just like the real railroads! Lionel is now the first to offer a "Mallet" class to model railroading, and boy, what fine engines these are! These powerful brutes, equipped with "Magne-traction," and TWO motors can pull almost anything that rolls. Both smoke stacks puff real smoke and the new 3 tone, low note whistle in the tender will have your railway sounding like the real railroads tackling the heavy Appalachian grades.

You can buy her in the normal "Lionel Lines" lettering, or have her lettered after her big sisters on the "Western Maryland Railway"! Large mallets tackle the Appalachian mountains on that railroad every day, and they do it with speed and power, just like the models do it!

Look at the sand dome and whistle, Lionel locos are just like real! Watch the two side rods operate in and out of sync as this new engine battles a heavy grade with a long train! The steel wheels, real R.R. knuckle couplers, and Lionel Reliability are sure-fire reasons to add this engine to your roster! Only Lionel brings you the most railroading fun!

What if Lionel decided to offer a Mallet in their product line in the 50's? I think this would be about what it looked like. I used two bases from and :
A 736 Berkshire base and a modern Lionel 4-4-2 base.

Even if this was made in the Postwar days, I think it'd be a slow seller because of the big price tag I'm imagining and the fact it might need WIDE (072) curves in order to run. I know some modern Lionmaster engines are 031 capable but would Lionel have had that feature back then?

That is absolutely fantastic, I'm glad I'm not the only one who wants an articulated Lionel postwar locomotive.

You're welcome. It would've been awesome if Lionel made these in the Postwar years.
