Sam had to get back at Cas somehow after that crack about his mom.Also... well, I'll reserve judgment on how easily Sam got to Hell and back in season 8. (No I won't--that was silly.)

Yeah, that's what Cas said. He pulled both Sam and Dean out of Hell before. Sam's just no longer impressed since he's done it himself, now.
(This is in reference to the 2nd trial in season 8 when Sam just kind of waltzed through Purgatory and Hell to get Bobby back.)
