Ah yes you haven't played blazblue before I'm sure.
Well basically when humanity discovered the Azure (which is like some sort of void, filled with magical energies) They sent in 13 prime field devices. They were designed by a man named Relius Clover the puppet master. 1-10 were rendered totally useless, while 11 was experimental subject that was discarded and reconstructed. 12 was supposedly a total failure and given human emotions so she could be adopted. 13 needed to be bonded to an Azure Grimorie so it could be completed into a cauldron know as the black beast to destroy the world after it goes back in time.

It's not literally a cauldron, just something that devours souls and combines them into the Kusinagi, or the god-slayer. This is so the antagonist can destroy Amaterasu, the master unit so the cycle of rebirth can end. This cycle of rebirth is like when a cd skips over one part over and over again, causing events to happen then go back and happen again and again.
