Description
Danny, Tucker... Obviously, I had to make a Sam.Wizardess sounds a little weird, but what ELSE are you supposed to call a female wizard?
So, magic-wise, she's good with animals. That's her familiar, Lilith, nonliving proof that I can't draw cats. Huzzah!
Silver oval cloak fastener thing is a symbol of necromancy, storyverse-wise. You can all see where I'm going with this thing I am NOT writing, can't you? Dand plotbunnies...

Don't worry. I can't draw animals at all.
Not even penguins..

...What if it was an animal on fire? (That sounds cruel--but they survive it. Or are supposed to be on fire. Or something. )

Female wizard? Isn't that a witch? I know, only in the HP universe. I like her robe here. It looks good on her, instead of being clothing like it is for the others. (Which I think means I can see her wearing that to school in the canon universe.
)

I definitely did NOT say witch, because this is probably plagerising HP enough as it is. As in, if I ever write the thing, I'll get all sorts of accusations about how I'm ripping off HP... that's part of why I'm resisting the plot bunnies.
And it IS the sort of thing Sam would wear. Although I can't quite picture her wearing it to school...maybe for Halloween or something. Or maybe I'm just not good at picturing things.

I don't think you're plagiarizing HP. They go to Casper, not Hogwarts, for instance, and it doesn't look like any of them have wands. Wizards are a common motif in a lot of literature, going way back. I think you're good. And sure, you'll get those accusations, but you're more in the right than they are, I think. It's like that woman who tried to sue Rowling because they both happened to make up the word "muggle".
Oh, I think she might if she was trying to prove a point about something. I doubt she's above cosplaying at school either. Personally I think she'd go for something spookier on Halloween.

I know I'm not plagarizing. And it'd be better than 99% of the DP/HP crossovers out though. No matter how fun it is to have Danny, Tucker, and Sam suddenly gain magical powers, move to Britain, and go to Hogwarts...it actually needs a plot, you know. And a LOT of explaining.
Also, wands are for sleight-of-hand magicians. REAL magic-users don't need wands. Although staffs and amulets are nice...

Oh, definitely agreed. I've seen a few good crosses, though. Could send the links, but you've probably seen them too.
Word. Have you read any of the Discworld novels? I quite like the concept of magic there. You need nothing, but the shinies are for the people who don't believe that.

Thanks. In a magical alternate universe, necromancy is EXACTLY the thing Sam would be interested in. Fits her like a glove.

Jim Butcher just says wizard, no matter what the person's gender is. I like that a lot--it's easier AND it's fair. Her cape is nifty!
I wonder how Sam would raise the dead? Interestingly, it is the sort of thing you usually need a focus for, like a familiar. Necromancy is incredibly dangerous.

Okay, I like that idea. Just saying wizard. It's so brilliantly simple, that's exactly why it didn't occur to be earlier.
Necromany...a bit different in this universe. Mostly it just gets translated into something like "ghost magic." Which is how you get the magic factor to work so well with the DP-theme.
Anyway, story-wise... Sam can't do necromancy. Magic is difficult at best in the universe--and necromancy is the most difficult of all. Plus, it's forbidden. Interest, even purely academic interest, is always looked at as a bad thing, so you have to have proof that you only learn about it to know how to counter it. Sam happens to be highly interested and has gained a lot of knowledge about it from scattered sources. Now, Danny fits into this, because he happens to come from a long line of, well, anti-necromancers (in concept kind of like the Abhorsen, if you're familiar with Garth Nix's books at all). This makes it okay for him to know about it. He just happens to be particularly adept at it. And accidentally opens a portal to the Netherworld/Ghost Zone place.
Hey, it was fun to come up with.
