Description
PLEASE FULL VIEW!!!So, guess what my favorite anime is (hint: no, it's not Sailor Moon, and yes, it's obvious in this image)
My entry for 's contest here: [link]
I wasn't going to enter this contest, but my muse decided that my idea was too good to pass up. Basically, I realized from this ( [link] ) image that the Moon Kingdom in Sailor Moon is a blatant rip-off of the Taj Mahal. It all went downhill from there...
So the idea became to draw Silver's past queens including Queen Serenity with the Moon Kingdom in the background, and using Islamic architecture as a reference point (specifically the Taj Mahal and the Alhambra). Well, for those not familiar with a lot of Islamic architecture, it's highly decorative. Like every surface covered.
Oh, did I mention that I got this idea a week before the contest deadline? Well, I realized that drawing the level of detail wasn't going to happen, so I thought using stock textures would help me get the effect I wanted. It would...but then I realized that my background now had the same effect as if I was doing Gankutsuou coloring. Being a huge Gankutsuou fan, I took it one step further and textured all the clothing as well.
The other five characters happened when doing some thumbnail sketches, and I realized my composition felt too empty. Normally I like a lot of negative space (and I still have a fair amount that's not people), but it needed more. So the other 5 happened.
There's a fair bit of symbolism involved with that. Neo Serenity sits on the wall with the others, but she sits with her legs on the other side of the wall looking back to Crystal Tokyo, symbolizing her ties to both. Usagi Luna, the one with the double odango, is supposed to be very close to her grandmother, so I drew her specifically looking more longingly towards her. I'm actually quite happy with how she came out. The rest were all poses that I thought fit the ideas I had of their personalities.
I think that's it drawing wise. Lots of sparkleys to help tie everything together, plus let's look at the facts: Sailor Moon, Gankutsuou coloring, Silver's characters, my obsession with shoujo sparkles. It kinda HAD to be shiny.
Hand-drawn (mostly) with rapidograph pens, coloring in photoshop. Time taken--dear god don't ask. O.o;;; My muse is a sadistic thing.

how dare you draw a mosque which is the basic Islamic architecture the place were people pray 5 times a day .. a place that represent the Islamic as something from past! with half naked girls .. I don't know if you meant to show that these are the Muslim girls in the past some how or what! or you want to disrespect Islam !
you should be more respectful of other religions and the features that represent those religions!

Prepare to be Schooled!
The Mythical Moon Kingdom, is inspired by the Taj Mahal.
Which is the example of sophisticated Mughal Β architecture.
The Mughal emperors were Muslims and direct descendants of Genghis Khan(an Asian!)Β Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan commissioned the building as a mausoleum, to his late wife and favorite, Mumtaz Mahal.(of Persian Nobility and Shia Islamic) the ones who are alwaysΒ persecuted and the target to hostility by the other religions of the middle east. She had beauty, grace and compassion! Doesnt sound like a woman who would persecute as a ghost for taking her tomb architecture being an inspiration to others!
Anyways! The design was conceived as both an earthly replica of the house of Mumtaz in paradise and an instrument of "propaganda" for the emperor.
Mughal architecture, an amalgam of Islamic, Persian,Turkish and Indian architecture, is the distinctive style developed by the "Mughals" in the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries. Mosques, are derived from other forms of architecture! They used, no stole for religious places of worship. So you are incorrect in what you say and your reaction! The Asians do not become radicals if others wish to be influenced by their architecture of Pagodas! Which are used for all types of places, including Temples!
Middle eastern architecture originates fromΒ Mesopotamian styles!!!
A style emerged in the Achaemenid period (c.550β330 BC). Influenced by the Greeks, the Egyptians, and those from other provinces of the Persian Empire. BEFORE MUHAMMAD! Before the Muslim religion! So your argument holds no ground. Anyone in this world is free to use the architecture to their liking for whatever reasons. Just because middle eastern religions took it and use it for worship places, doesnt make any difference! Your in the wrong! YOU DO NOT OWN IT! Or have the rights to tell people if they can use it! Your religion and the ones who claim rights to it have NO right. Foesnt belong to you! Or even started with you. You should know your history! Before you open your ignorant flapper!
Also, get off this American made site. Your ignorant kind isnt welcomed!

This is a based off a Japanese anime, that castle has nothing to do with Muslim religion, If it bares any resemblance I'm sure no offense was intended. I believe it wasn't ment to cause disrespect in any way. It is a fictional place called the Moon Kingdom where a princess and her sailor scouts reside. This is simple a fan-art picture with characters from the show and a few extra people (possible original characters or cross overs from another show).

I don't get it - look like from Sailor Moon, but who are they?

Enkai In reply to SeaWhisper [2010-10-16 04:11:15 +0000 UTC]
If you read the description, most of them (other than Queen Serenity, Usagi, and Chibi-Usa) are OC's belonging to *silver-eyes-blue . They're her moon dynasty.

OC's mean hm? original characters? so these are characters based on the whole Sailor Moon story, but made by another person?

Yep. All but Queen Serenity, Princess Serenity, and ChibiUsa are OC's of *silver-eyes-blue

I can definitely see the Gankutsuou influence here. I love what you did!
Also, why no Nehelenia/Neherenia/Nephrenia? Isn't she, like, a distant cousin and all being royalty on the dark side of the moon? XD;
Anyway, awesome stuff. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Thanks! And it makes me happy that somebody can tell see the Gankutsuou homage.
She's not in the image because she's not part of the direct lineage of all of Silver's OCs. I'm not sure how Silver has reconciled Nehelenia with her characters, but since she's not included in any of her group images, I left her out.

I like the girl after the red head one. What are you gonna call her? I would call her tranquility or felicity, since they both mean the same thing as serenity.

Wooow, this is gorgeous! You've got some crazy patience. The first thing that struck me (besides the huge number of people) was how well done the wall and pillars are. Very nice job with all the patterns.

I wish I had more of it. Since massive amounts of detail tends to characterize a lot of my work, explains why I get so little done.
Thank you for your kind words too! I do love the sparkly! ^.^
