1800s - Nearly 'Imperialism and Colonialism era'

Indonesia were colonized by Portugal and Netherlands.
Mostly women in this era didn't have education widely, unless you're the daughter/son of governor. They get free education, such as Dutch language, politic sciences, social sciences, and so on. Famous figure in this era is Raden Ajeng Kartini and Dewi Sartika. They fought on Java's patriarchy.

1900s - Modern Imperialism and Colonialism era - Independence era

Indonesia still a colony of Dutch. In this era, Dutch develop some schools in Java and Sumatra. Called MULO (Elementary School)--I forget the rest of them, I'm sorry.

After Indonesia got their independence, some of school systems are adapted from both Dutch and Japanese.
Taman Kanak-kanak (Kindergarten), Sekolah Dasar (Elementary School, 6 years), Sekolah Menengah Pertama (Junior High-school, 3 years), and Sekolah Menengah Umum (High-school 3 years)

We can conclude that, the education system is getting better. All people can access it, without knowing your family background.

2000s - Modern era

In this era, women can do whatever they want.
But some of traditional societies, which they still adhere to customary rules, still didn't want their women got impacted with globalization. I feel so grateful, that some of people just came in their territory to teach tribal societies, one of them is Sakola Rimba, in Jambi. They accept it
