Description It's been a while since I've posted an "Oneiroi" piece - drawings of characters, creatures, or scenes that have appeared in my dreams. Probably because it's so hard sometimes to really do them justice with a single picture. But I made an exception in this case, because this character - the central character of the dream - was particularly memorable, and kicked off a three-night-long series of dreams of the eldritch and bizarre.

He started out as a normal-enough boy, if a little introverted. Had gone to a convention with a small group of friends, but one of them had been getting a bad feeling that they couldn't explain. Got so bad that they didn't want to stay at the hotel, which had a window that looked out over the water. The boy was eventually left alone as his other friends decided to go to a party, which was a bit much for him. Going through his things, he found a necklace that he didn't remember buying - a dark chain, with a single large greenish pearl. For no apparent reason, he tried it on.
Later that night, still by himself, the boy ran afoul of a trio of thugs, who had specifically targeted young people who had been attending the convention, for the reason that they would have money and/or valuables on their person. Initially they only planned to rough him up, but a surprise retaliation from the boy caused one of the thugs to impulsively draw a knife on him. Fatally stabbed, the boy could only think of trying to call for help while his attackers argued among themselves - killing someone was not part of the plan, after all. He could still see the water in the distance, and he could see people, too. So he shouted. But the words that came out weren't the words he intended, and they were words that he didn't understand. Even when he tried again, the same unknown phrase was all he could say.
A soft glow appeared from the water - a pale pearly green - and some sort of creature slithered out and drifted through the air in his general direction. Strangely, no one else seemed to see it, as none of the distant people reacted to it, nor did the thugs, who were still arguing. One of them tried to keep the boy quiet after he tried shouting, though they also didn't understand what he had been saying. The creature itself had only a vague shape - sometimes it looked slightly like a salamander, sometimes like an octopus, sometimes like a fish, sometimes like a flatworm. Its body seemed to fold in on itself as it drew near, and suddenly began to enter the boy through the wound in his stomach.
Almost immediately, the boy's body began to tear and distort into something monstrous, many jaws with many teeth quickly ripping into the thug who was unfortunate enough to be the closest. Of the three, two were killed, while the third ultimately got away when he ran towards a populated area. There was still rational thought for this boy, who, as much as he wanted to go after this guy, did not want to end up accidentally killing innocent people. And what if his friends were out there?
There was enough humanity in him to counter the bloodlust, and slowly the boy's body reverted back to its normal appearance. Still, there was the feeling that this was not just a one-off, as whatever he had called out to, whatever had done this to him, it was still there inside him, in the back of his head, and he was still at risk of the same transformation occurring again. There was also the sense that he only had his human thoughts because he was allowed to have them. And that all of this was somehow planned or intended, but there was no real indication of what that plan was, or why he was now part of it.

Later dreams led to the inclusion of a strange pair of smiling siblings, and a one-eyed yellow cat, which were not what they appeared to be. And then of course that one friend, the one who had that bad feeling before it all began, and started to fall victim to the paranoia that his friend, this boy, had been replaced by a monster.

Soooo after that long description...hope you like him. Left his picture kinda sketchy and greyscale.

Also, I'd like to give him a name! So if anyone out there has any suggestions on what might be a nice name for this boy, I'd love to hear them! ^_^

OMG!

This is just amazing! And as for a name?

His name will be...

Monsuta Osore

Which what I found in Google Translator means in Japanese is "monster fear".

See where I am going with this?

You are most welcome!

I am glad you love his name!

Oh! I can't believe I forgot to add this, but "Monsuta" means "monster" and his last name, Osore means "fear".

Now you know...

I it's safe to say now that he has an actual name, you can go ahead and edit his Description with his new name if you want to.

The more you know! XD
I'll probably keep it as more of an alias name, since I don't imagine he was born with it. ^^

OK. Fair enough. It just caught my eye and thought the name would go good with his personality.
