Description
KAI-JUNE IS HERE AT LAST... At least for my crummy corner of the inter-webs.Here's the first of three illustrations I did for dinosaur enthusiast Greg Noneman based on the unproduced giant-monster-disaster-movie "Nessie".
"Nessie" was to be a collaboration between Britain's Hammer Film Productions and Japan's Toho Co., Ltd. with plans for the latter studio handling the special effects. These illustrations will be incorporated into a larger art book and related panel for this upcoming G-Fest convention, Nessie: The Kaiju that Hammer Loched Away, both of which are being overseen by Greg.
This first illustration depicts the opening prologue in which the titular character, an extremely rare but otherwise ordinary living plesiosaur, is being exposed to the mutagenic compound dubbed Mutane-4, now seeping into the Loch water due to a crashed tanker truck off in the distance. This pivotal event soon transforms our innocent Nessie into a rampaging leviathan.
Insert a cameo from a certain bag of Mystery Bones from "Mothra vs Godzilla" for gags.
RAF ON THE UNMADE NESSIE FILM
The history off unproduced giant monster material, whether it be from films, television, books, or otherwise, have always fascinated me and so much so that I often have vivid dreams of what some of these planned but ultimately abandoned concepts would’ve looked like. Of course, considering the insane nature and ambition of these lost projects paired up with the technical and budgetary limitations of their respective eras, the end results would've been less spectacular than what plays out in my mind.
Nessie, the planned co-production between the fantasy film houses of Hammer and Toho, is one of those lost projects that I honestly think would have looked amazing had it been made: a combination of downbeat British sci-fi thriller, bombastic Japanese giant monsters, and global disaster spectacles that were that blockbuster go-to back in the late 1970s. Despite my preference for cartoonist snark, something reflected in my artistic submissions seen above, I do sincerely feel that we lost an interesting entry into fantasy film making with Nessie blowing the 1976 “King Kong” remake right out of the water (pun intended).

Nessie, a normal Plesiosaur, is exposed to Mutune-4 which transforms her into a rampaging giant monster. She wreaks havoc across the pacific ocean and eventually onto dry land until she is killed.
