The fearsome Nantascrust is an ancient elemental Ice Giant with incredible psychic powers who's been trapped deep within the South Pole for an unknown amount of unfathomable time.
Having access to the weak-willed minds of humans since their adolescent evolution, Nantascrust uses his vast psychic abilities to influence the various stories of Santa Clause in the hope that humanity will one day head out to the South Pole in search for the otherwise fictional Jolly Old Elf only to release him, the sinister ice giant, instead.

Thus far, Nantascrust's plans have yet to succeed, forcing him to accelerate his mental influence on humanity in the last two centuries, including but not limited to inspiring artists and poets to further elaborate Christmas lore or by making skeptical unbelievers of Santa Clause far nastier in their actions which in turn forces 'The Santa Faithful' to want to track down the fictional gift-giver.
Yes, even those of us who do not believe in Santa Clause doesn't realize that they too are being psychically played by the almighty Nantascrust!

The general neurosis around Christmas time, such as stress, depression, and Religious fanaticism might also be blamed on Nantascrust... But humans are a pretty miserable and chaotic lot as it is so it's hard to tell whether there's a connection or not.

Despite this, Nantacrust isn't all that evil, power-hungry and seeking freedom to quench that thirst, yes, but not overtly malevolent as he generally enjoys playing false Santa Claus to billions of dreaming humans and, like some pleasant variation of a psychic vampire, sucks up the good vibes that keeps him going within his entrapment.

Nantacrust has even fashioned a twenty-foot tall hand puppet of Old Saint Nick from discarded ship refuse for when some unsuspecting children stumble upon his icy prison.

Thanks for saying so: is Nantascrust more spooky than my original intent of darkly comical?

Looks get. I always like to see how you draw and shade your ice. Always so well done. I like the little story with this guy. Goofy, but it fits. Sort of reminds me of Rare Exports if you have ever seen that film. In that Santa is a giant monster with huge curved horns that is frozen and recently unearthed. It's all silly but the movie is played dead freaking serious.
