Description Thirty Days of Fandom
Day Four: Favorite Comic Book Series
Batman

Sorry for uploading so late. Got home late last night and didn't remember until I was way too comfortable to get out of bed.

For information on this series you can visit the wiki-page here --> [link]

I really shouldn’t have to explain why Batman is my favorite comic book series, so I’m just going to skip right to my usual ranting.

I originally sketched out the Gotham City skyline with the batsignal in the sky and Batman and Robin standing proudly on a rooftop over looking the city. But when I couldn't decide whether I wanted it to be Bruce Wayne as Batman and Dick Grayson as Robin or Dick Grayson as Batman and Damian Wayne as Robin, I decided to do something completely different. Instead of having just one Robin, I put all of them, with Bruce!Batman in the background. I even have Jason Todd as the Red Hood, even though I should be completely against his existance, but can't bring myself to shun him because he's hot.

Anyway...

Dick Grayson, AKA Nightwing, AKA the main reason why I wanted to draw all four Robins in the first place, AKA I'd tap that, is in the big middle of the picture because freaking Dick Grayson as Nightwing. Let me have my pretty men, okay? However, Dick did pull a dick move by not letting my find a decent picture of his boots, forcing me to guess what they looked like and royally screwing up the perspective on his legs. But we won't dwell on that.

Next up is the second Robin, Jason Todd, AKA the Red Hood AKA Why aren't you still dead?!, swinging into the scene up in the left hand corner there. He was incredibly easy to draw and gave me very little trouble, which is very out of character for him. Okay, I'm going to tell you guys a little story about Jason Todd that I think you're either going to like or call WTF-ery. Back in the eighties(?) Dick Grayson got shot by the Joker, and Batman, being the wonderful father that he is, fired him as Robin to keep him safe. Dick flicked him the bird (haha, pun) and moved to Bludhaven, where he doned the persona Nightwing (and to this day is still my favorite Robin).

Well, not long afterward, Batman was just walking along when he noticed someone trying to steal the wheels off of the batmobile. That someone was preteen Jason Todd. Batman took the little orphan boy under his wing and made him the new Robin. That pissed Dick off, and thus the father/son battle of Batman/Nightwing begin, which also led to Nightwing becoming the Get-Out-Of-Jail-Free-Card for all Robins after him. Now, Jason was the grungier of the Robins. By grungier I mean emo-er, because well, he was a little shit. So, when the oppurtunity came for DC to kill him, instead of just letting him die after be blown up by the Joker, DC made a poll. "Check 'Yes' if you want Robin to live, Check 'Kill that little shit' if you don't." Needless to say, everyone checked "Kill that little shit."

And thus was the end of Jason Todd.

That was until a couple of years ago, (or less, because I haven't been keeping up with the storyline because I'm a loser) DC did something that really shouldn't surprise anyone. (I mean, seriously, how many times have they killed off Superman?) Turns out, Jason Todd is alive and well and is using the Joker's old alias to bring death and destruction on poor innocent criminals who have run amuck in Gotham City. That and he hates Batman. Like for serious. It's adorable.

But anyway, that's my story. And though, I have a strict rule about "Let Them Rest In Peace," I can't completely ignore Jason. And it's not just because I would sit in his lap, despite my better judgement. A while back, my dad's yard collected stray cats. (It still does, but we're not going to talk about them). It started with Mama Athos, who had three kittens, Porthos, Aramis and D'Artagnan. D'Artagnan had two kittens, one black and one calico. I named the black one Batman and his sister Robin. Robin went on to have three kittens, who I named Dick, Jason and Tim. Robin and Dick got run over, and Batman disappeared. So all we had left was Jason and Tim. Tim became a huge ass white tom cat and got adopted by a family somewhere in the neighborhood. Jason stayed. And went on to mother several litters of kittens and pretty much reigns as Queen over the twenty some odd stray cats that live in my dad's backyard. One of these cats is Ocelot, affectionately named after Major Adamaska Ocelot from Metal Gear Solid 3, and who is Jason's great-great-grandson.

Out of all of Robin's kittens, Jason was the one that stayed. So, I have a special place in my heart for Jason Todd, even if he is a little shit.

Moving on, we have the third Robin, Tim Drake, who I like to refer to as Tiny Tim. Tiny Tim will always be Tiny Tim, even now that he thinks he's all grown-up and calls himself the Red Robin. Everything I know about Tiny Tim I learned from Teen Titans, mostly because I just stopped reading comic books all together because they stopped making sense and following the storyline made my head hurt. So, if there's anyone who would take up the Batman mantle, it would be Tiny Tim. He's only Robin who is the most like Batman. And he would make a damn good Batman too.

I've actually gotten into a discussion (before Batman "died") about the possibility of Batman dying and who would take over the role. Well, my theory was that Dick Grayson would take over (which he did) but he wouldn't take it on permanently. My theory was that even though Dick would be Batman, he would take Tiny Tim under his wing and train him until he was ready to become Batman himself.

Then someone threw the illegitimate child wrench into the works and everything is just riduclous and I don't care anymore.

By illegitimate child, I mean of course, our fifth Robin, Damian Wayne. (The fourth Robin was some little slut named Stephanie and she was fired because no one liked her and Batman only hired her to get back at Tiny Tim for quiting). Damian is the illegitimate son of Bruce Wayne and Talia al Ghul, the daughter of Ra's al Ghul, one of Batman's archnesises, and the guy that was in Batman Begins. He, much like Jason, is a little shit. He took up the Robin mantle, I think right before Batman "died." Then when Batman "died" there was a huge battle to see who would take up the title, and Dick won, obviously. But with Damian as Robin, the whole dynamic of the Batman/Robin relationship was completely reversed. For the first time, we are seeing a happy Batman and vicious little monster of Robin.

Nothing sums this up more than this picture by ~Shugahshak --> [link]

Actually, a great deal of Shuga's Dick/Damian artwork depicts both of them perfectly. Go check her out when you get the chance.

I would love to explain why I love the Batman Universe, but I think covering the Robins alone is too much for dA.

But, I guess I can't just leave you guys hanging like that wihtout at least mentioning my all time favorite character: Alfred Pennyworth.

Alfred is the backbone of the Batman Universe and without him there would be no Batman.

Also I love Damian, even if he is a little shit. He's totes adorbs in a total-homicidal-little-bastard kind of way. XD

XD Go, go, Damian. If I ever find myself in the position where I have four children, I want my youngest to be named Damian. But not because of Damian Wayne, even though that helps.

He's not dead, he's "dead." No one ever really dies in the DCverse..
