Another thing that I'd consider: try to make the petals in a single color and the inner ring in the complementary to each. The shadow effect you aimed for wqs achieved, but it doesn't really add to the look and potentialize the optical merge of the inner ring. Make the inside petals build the depth instead of forcing it with the small darker area in the outer ring

I take it this is the new one you mentioned in the other version's comment. The colors still merge weirdly. I suggest a trip to adobe kuler tool or to whip out the famous colorwheel. A 5-color harmony is not an easy task even with one of those, but at the very least it'll show you which colors to use in the inner ring by choosing complementary colors to the ones in the outer ring. I'd just place a regular pentagon on the color wheel for the main colors and flip it 180 degrees to get the inner ring. If you must keep the same colors in both rings I'd use a 2-step distance from each color in the pentagon.
