Here's my thing: Β doesn't Unalaq's merging with Vaatu mean that the Dark Avatar will be reborn? Β Will the waterbending carry over to the next incarnation? Β Or will it be that the Dark Avatar will only ever have one element at a time?

since vaatu was destroyed, he return to be inside raava (lol) and thus he is not fused anymore with the spirit of a human, therefore is highly unlikely that a dark avatar will indeed reborn.

But it would still be really cool if they decide to do that having a foe who can never be truly destroyed and possibly identifying them would be really tricky because the best defense against the Dark Avatar would be if they never find out and there's an antagonist who really can go toe to toe with the Avatar.
And yeah kinda sucks that Korra can no longer contact her past lives but at the same time they gone into a new era so I guess even the Avatar has to start over with a clean slate and it balances the light and dark avatars out putting them on the same playing ground.

I saw it and I thought Pacific Rim at that moment, but that scene raised a few questions, like first off, why did Unalaq turn into that huge spirit monster after he fused with Vaatu, when that never happened to Wan when he fused Raava, and also what did Korra do the Unalaq/Vaatu, did she kill him? I'm a bit confused on that.Β

Thats probably because Rawa and Wan are different people then a demon overlord Watu.
And yes, Unalaq was killed. However, Watu can't die (as explained by Rawa long ago) and if I had to guess, I'd say that a baby Avatar was born somewhere immediately after Unalaq's death.

There was a scene in tonight's episode that really made me pissed, it's a scene where Korra and others are imprisoned and they're trying to talk Eska and Desna out of being loyal to their father and Desna yells at them and says something along the lines of "OUR FATHER IS THE WISEST MAN WHO EVER LIVED, SO WHAT HE SAYS IS RIGHT!!!" and I'm sitting there going "DUMBASS! DUMBASS! DUMBASS! HOW MUCH OF A DUMBASS ARE YOU?! I mean your father is trying to fuse with a dark, evil spirit and become an evil Avatar! And plus HE LEFT YOU FOR DEAD!!! And you think he's WISE?!! YOU ARE ON METH!!!"Β

But Bryke has never actually killed anyone one the show. Okay, there was Yue and Zhao, Tarrlok and Amon, and even Avatar Wan, but the only one who you actually witnessed die was Wan. Yue evaporated, Zhao was dragged underwater, and the bloodbending brothers were at a very wide shot when their boat exploded. In order to do what you're talking about, Korra's actually gonna have to murder Unalaq on screen.
I don't think that's gonna happen on a channel viewed by kids.
