Funny thing, Kariya was the character I least liked at first.
He was self-serving, deluded, sort of ran on anger and
jealousy, went about things all the wrong ways despite his
intentions, and I could even call him single minded since he
couldn't/refused to see life from a mage's point of view.
And yet, by the end he's one of my favorites.
Huh, Kirei's got the right idea.
It IS fun to watch him suffer. D8

Kariya was my favorite from start to end, actually. Even when things were...not miserable for him. He seemed like such a nice guy.
I was disappointed he gave into rage (Tokiomi) and one of the sanity lapses (Aoi), but watching him go through everything to save one little girl... It was a good contrast to Kurisugu. You have one competitor trying to "save the world," but not really caring about the individuals he breaks on the way. Then you have the other doing everything for a single person, while growing angrier at the world.
It is not fun. 
That said, great collection of doodles and drawings.

streets. I haven't read the novel, but
