Description
This was a self portrait I did for my art class last semester. I know, it doesn't look like me and I actually didn't intend it to. Instead, I intended it to be a self portrait of the emotional/inner kind and while it doesn't reflect my physical appearance, it reflects part of myself instead. I used an All That Remains T-shirt as a source image, but added a lot of my own things to it. I really only used the face itself because a friend of mine owned the shirt and it sort of inspired me to do this. Not much else to say about it, so tell me what you all think. Referenced the hands from ~KittyNamedAlly . Used mechanical pencil and powdered graphite.Related content

I've noticed. You should see my more recent stuff. It's of a lot higher quality, though please don't adhere to the ignorant norm that just because I drew a woman I am a pervert. I can't stand it when people automatically assume that.

Whaaat? Drawing women isnt perverted! I true TONS of butt-naked men last semester in my figure drawing class, and I am not perverted.
I have been doing well. I need to be working alot more so I can furnish my apartment properly, but I have been on vacation a good bit of the summer. I like school, but I am having SERIOUS scheduling conflicts, so that sucks. Other than that, life is good. How about you?

That's good. I've been fine. I'm taking two summer courses to make up for the spring semester I missed. I only have one class left of my anthropology class, which is four hours long. Then I just have the final exam. I've just about finished my final paper, which was a seven page essay on a topic of our choice. I picked ritual cannibalism of Papua, New Guinea. Interesting stuff, though really tedious to write since I didn't know anything about it. I just have to do my citations and write a closing.

Thats a pretty intense essay topic. My art classes are three hours a day and I though THAT was long, is anthropology interesting? why didnt you go spring semester? are you enjoying school sofar?

Yeah, the class starts to really drag after a while. And of course since I'm really into progressive music, (it's pretty hard to explain. Have you ever heard of Dream Theater?) when we take our little 5-7 minute breaks, I can't even get through a full song.
I don't really find it interesting, but then again I don't really find anything scholastic very interesting. It is a pretty diverse field, though. The whole thing is divided up into four categories: cultural, biological/physical, linguistic, and archaeology.
I didn't go to the spring semester because my father never payed for it. We can't afford it ourselves, so I wasn't able to go. It was really boring.
I'm not exactly enjoying it, but it's not that bad at the same time. I didn't know anything about anthropology when I started, and I can't say I'm all that grateful for knowing what I know now, since I don't find it to be all that important. But it's extremely easy for me (I already have an above perfect score for the entire class since I got full bonus points on the midterm and only missed two questions. So I've missed four points out of every possible point total) so at the very least it will raise my GPA.

Well that is good that you got a good grade atleast. First semester i took psycology. you should take it if possible. I found it VERY interesting. I kept my textbook because I would actually sit down and read several chapters at a time. You should take it if you can. I also took geology... it was literally PAINFUL to sit through. I cant even describe my frustration with that class. I got a tutor though so it helped, and everyone was doing so badly that the curve raised my grade from a d to a b.
What are you planning to major in again?

I'm not really interested in psychology. I know enough about the human mind works, I don't think I need to take a class on it.
Technically I'm majoring in art, but I'm not too excited about it. I'm worried that I won't be able to get a job, so I really want to do something more normal, but I just don't know what. Nothing really interests me.

You can never know too much on why people are the way they are. Thats what I think. I wanted a good, secure job with art too, so I am doing education too. I cant really see you enjoying teaching though. Life an artist will always be really hard, but If you do succeed, it would be SO rewarding. I say, go for it.

Maybe, but there's only so much you can understand about the mind of an individual.
I don't think I would enjoy teaching, much less art. I'm already a very harsh critic as it is.

Thank you...I saw your thread on how to get noticed...I honestly have to ask you something..If your intention is to become a better artist why care for such thing...You have to realize not every one here is serious about taking up art as a profession...They won't be able to give you any critiques that are valid..And they know it too..If you really want critiques get a subscription switch on the advanced critique option and start sending notes to all the artists you look up to asking for critique...If they like your work they will tell you so..But if you do so make sure you send notes..These artists get like 100's of messages everyday...They wont have time to reply through every message..Make sure that you ask them with the proper maturity it needs...Worked for me so far...

Well for one thing, I wasn't asking how to become more popular, I was asking why none of my viewers ever comment on any of my work.
What would having a subscription do? I already select the "advanced critique encouraged" option. It's not like it forces anyone to do anything.
Personal question, why do you put multiple periods and no spaces at the end of sentences?

Wow it's pretty good.
A suggestion I would make is to use less hard lines, and focus on creating form with light and shadow instead of lines. Lines are okay to make a sketch and to plan your drawing, but it will look more realistic if you get rid of them before the end.
You did pretty well at this for the most part, just around the heart there are a lot of definite lines.
