No, I don't think you went too far, though the level of detail is so high you can't resolve it all... but in a good way. I definitely could not settle for the thumbnail or small view and had to click through to full view. The only thing I wonder about is why the lines ended up so jaggy. This is especially obvious as her hair arcs down past her head and shoulders as well as the crystiline shapes in the upper corners.
