Description
For the contest [link]Original art by Lucas-PS [link]
Haven't participated in this for sometime, but since we get to choose the linearts we would like to color, I decided to give it a shot (too stressed with schoolwork...). Although this one didn't jump out to me in the thumbnail, it does look awesome up close. I kind of like the composition, and while tracing the picture onto watercolor paper, I realized how much the artist had put into the details, research and idea of it. Tried to find reference pictures on the internet for the original colors of the characters, but still couldn't get some (especially the few in the foreground). In the end, it didn't matter, because they all end up in the darkness.
...I think I need to start trying new color palettes.

Really great capture on the lighting and love the little specs of white!

I thought I commented on this before, but I was making a comment on the Color-Me-Club journal entry, ([link] ) and realized I didn't!
I love the way you used light and color in this piece to help draw the focus in on Toad - it's brilliant both in a literal and theoretical sense. The cool hues you've put into the Nightmare Before Christmas cast and the watercolor-like texture help to set a dark and creepy mood for it, and the high contrast with Toad and his bold colors amps up the feeling of "What's This?" The choice to use a bursting light source makes the expressions on the characters' faces that much more meaningful. This is beautiful work all around.

Wow, thank you! I've read both comments, and am happy to know that the yellows worked! For me, somehow, I thought the gouache added in the final touches kind of backfired the original idea. It makes Toad harder to look; as though the white is dispelling the eye from looking directly at Toad and forcing it away onto Jack (the skeleton guy), who now is a resting point for the eye. Maybe that led the eye to follow the yellows back to Toad, but yea, I'm glad the values are working.

Ah, so this isn't a schoolwork!? I had thought it was!
It looked really awesome up close. The coloring and the shading is just perfect!!! I like how the light and shadow fell on each individual character in this picture.
And yeah, poor Toad! Lol!
Speaking of coincidence, I have recently taken part in one of the contest here too XD It's my first time participating, and I look forward to it!

Nope... this is a relief from schoolwork, whahahahahahah~ But yea, I only did the coloring, the drawing was done by another artist (Lucas-PS)
And thanks for the comment! It helps to have a colored sketch ready! Can plot out the lighting nicely.
Haha, too much coincidences in my life that they dun seem like it anymore... All the best and good luck for the contest!!!!!!
