Description
Lo and behold, it's Fenriok, the wonderful draik whom I am applying for and whom all of my lovely watchers are tired of seeing deviations of.I kind of decided that he needed at least one epic rock-perching picture from his younger life before he settled into his little marshy fen.
Two things. One: Yes, I am aware that he has no wings here. It was an artistic choice; they made the picture awkwardly balanced. Just pretend they're there. xD
Two: Do not ask where the water is coming from. *shifty eyes* It's magical.
Also, credit where credit is due! Most of the background is painted, but I did use this amazing stock to fill it out more:

And, as some of you may have noticed, the title might be familiar. It derives from a poem called "Over the Misty Mountains Cold" by Tolkien, (one of my favorites, actually!) Here's a few excerpts:
Far over the Misty Mountains cold,
To dungeons deep and caverns old,
We must away, ere break of day,
To seek our pale enchanted gold.
.....
The wind was on the withered heath,
But in the forest stirred no leaf:
There shadows lay by night or day,
And dark things silent crept beneath.
The wind came down from mountains cold,
And like a tide it roared and rolled.
The branches groaned, the forest moaned,
And leaves were laid upon the mould.
The wind went on from West to East;
All movement in the forest ceased.
But shrill and harsh across the marsh,
Its whistling voices were released.
The grasses hissed, their tassels bent,
The reeds were rattlingβon it went.
O'er shaken pool under heavens cool,
Where racing clouds were torn and rent.
It passed the Lonely Mountain bare,
And swept above the dragon's lair:
There black and dark lay boulders stark,
And flying smoke was in the air.
It left the world and took its flight
Over the wide seas of the night.
The moon set sale upon the gale,
And stars were fanned to leaping light.
There is more, much more. But you can just google it, or you'd be scrolling here forever!
For some reason, on my computer half of this shows up gray unless you click fullview. Please tell me if this happens to you too!

Very much agreed there, he has inspired me greatly as a fantasy loving person - I was reading the hobbit when I was 8, Lord of the Rings at 12 and Silmarillion at 14

Unfortunately I do not! D: I am rather limited in terms of internet communication. But if you would like to know anything specific, feel free to note me with any and every question, and I'd be happy to answer them all!

xD I understand that one, sometimes I wish I was limited I might focus on my own large scale novel world thing I'm working on, that involves my own character who I'm currently muro sketching xD.
Your world seems really interesting, what races are there besides the usual humans

Haha yes, that's my theory anyways.
Let's see! I haven't compiled a full list yet, but some major highlights are:
Fairies and various kinds of elementals
Dragons (exact species varying by mountain range.)
Nightshades (A kind of shadowy wraith that causes terrifying delusions)
There are also "elevated" humans with special kinds of what I guess you would call telepathy. There are dragon telepaths, elemental telepaths, etc. These are the only ones with any kind of magical ability or connection, and thus the only ones that can progress into the practice of sorcery if they wish.
Also, dozens of smaller strange species like Deskis (mushroom guardians) live in the forests.

Sounds sweet! My worlds a bit bigger then one world, makes it all the more fun to try and focus on ^.^;; Plenty of races and they still need refining properly.
Tempted to start a group for Fantasy world creators at times just to get feed back from the others who do similar to us xD.
My story has a prologue written...well part written. There's a lot of stuff about Gods I'm still trying to get my head round

Oh, cool! I am currently trying to work out a map of the whole world; Elbarien is just an island, but it is a very small world (after all *sings*) because Elbarien is a rather large island, even though it's only 80 miles across.
I would SO join that group!
And I am toying with the idea of gods as well! I am not sure yet.

90% of what happens in my universe is thanks to Gods but it has a rather complex 'structure' to it ^.^;;;
First of all there was the mother and father, they created much of the early universe, and had 3 children, Good, Neutral and Evil. Evil killed his brother Neutrality leaving only the two, and they are trapped into the Ying-Yang cycle. The good one is destined to forever fight with his brother etc, between them and their constant fighting they somehow keep the rest of the universe in battle, or they did.
Until the founding mother and father chose to create minor Gods beneath them to govern in their stead. The evil brother saw a chance to gain power greater then his good sibling to try and cast the whole universe to darkness.
The only way the good spirit could fight this is to take a mortal form, which is what he does, wandering the worlds of the universe, training and preparing for the fight that will kill him - which is to defeat all the minor Gods.
After their defeat a new pantheon forms and the endless cycle continues.

That is very well thought out! The deities that I have worked out right now are The Five, a council of exalted fairies with enormous power. They did make their council at Cru-Itrin, but the magic that they used was so powerful that it seeped into the land, and was corrupted. Now it is a dark realm.

Sounds nice ^_^ the good spirit is known as 'Sakwa' when in mortal form (pronounced Sah-koo-dra) and it means 'one tied to the phoenix' referring to his rebirth cycle. Its given him the phoenix as his legendary animal guardian and companion. The evil spirit never takes mortal form as it would have to accept mortal flaws

BoyWonderRobin In reply to epicondyle [2010-12-30 21:12:30 +0000 UTC]
Its taken me some time to come up with them. Then there's the small details like when Sakwa is wandering the spirit world he looks like a young child due to the relatively young age of the universe (when the three children were born was the true start of the universe and time )
