At first I thought "freedom" was supposed to be an ironic title, due to the branches looking very entrapping.

nice shot I've got a simular one on a film waiting to be developed... followed the little beggar for what felt like hours
can't afford to waste too much film!

I went outside and played with birdies for about 20 minutes
it was hard... I used a rapid fire mode... so I have loads and loads of pictures to make sure I got the right shot

does that rapid fire mode come on the 350d? i tried to find the setting to take more than one shot at once and you can only take 3 at a time.

no... I don't think the fire is as rapid on the 350d. You should try portrait mode. When =morningrise was here he was using it.. and it has rather rapid fire that way. He has the camera
Not sure if the 350d has sports/movement mode on it. It should look like the little running man. That's fast shutter speed and rapid fire as well.

This shot is incredible!
I angle is great, and the branches in the background give it sort of an eerie feeling.
