A wonderful book that is a little difficult to explain, but in a nutshell: Pi Patel is an Indian (from India) boy who practices Hinduism, Christianity, and Islam all at the same time. He and his family are moving to America, but he ends up in a lifeboat with a zebra, an orangutan, a hyena, and a tiger named Richard Parker. If the sheer oddity of it all doesn't overwhelm you, you will find a powerful and moving story.
