Funny how a random character from some random game could get life of their own outside of the original game.190 days in the game and she is still alive. This is sort of a personal record. At the same time I'm making up her story and personality. Her life before the apocalypse. How she was left behind when evacuation happened. First encounter with zombie. First killed zombie. Her sword. What made her a mutant. Or maybe she was a mutant from era many centuries after the apocalypse when mutation is common and she was born that way. It isΒ exciting when story writes, change and molds itselfΒ around simple set of stats, traits and gear in the video game. Who knows, maybe her story will hold me interested long enough to make something remarkable. Or maybe not and she simply will leave in my memory as an interesting concept from the past. In any case now she is the source of stories I enjoy.

I didn't use any mods. I got these mutations from mutagen serum. Later when I decided to start the same character anew I just copypasted mutations and traits from old save file to the new one.

this is why roguelikes like caraclysm are so great. the ideas and images that they put in your head can be so vivid sometimes. also go's with out saying real nice job on this. i especially like the missing finger.

I agree. Such games may not have graphics at all but because of wide possibilities of the gameplay, they are a pure imagination fuel. I love to recall stories from Dwarf Fortress and Cataclysm DDA.

A thought has started bugging me - the leg tentacles don't have bones in them, do they?Β If they don't, then the rest of the body is supported on just muscle.Β And she'd need a lot of friction against the ground, or the tentacles would just slide outward until she was doing a six-way splits.Β So she'd have to stay focused just to keep upright - any time she relaxed she'd just sloosh down and out.

Yeah, I thought about this issue. At first, I thought that she will have a very low profile because she can't stand upright. I made several rough sketches and only one of them made it to the character study sheet in the end (Lydia Oths, character study , the crawling one in the bottom to the left). I liked the upright silhouette much more so I changed the concept a bit. Plus it fits more the mechanics of the game that inspired me to make this character. Tentacle legs mutation there only lowers movement speed by 20% and still allows a character to run. So in theΒ final(kinda)Β concept,Β her "legs" do have a skeleton. But it's more cartilage than bones. It provides just enough support to stand, "run", or climb but it's not rigid enough to allow her to hold weight she was able to before the mutation (which wasn't much already). She still can carry a backpack with tools and loot but she tires much quicker and it is a significant problem for her.
