Like most equestrians know, trains can be a horse’s worst enemy - and loading at night is no easy task. It’s dark, it’s cold, and it’s noisy. How successfully do you and your horse make it into the box cars, and who else are you riding with?

Greg finally managed to steer (the rather frisky in the brisk night air) Possum to the train station. His hands trembling, clutching on to the provisions he'd been assigned like his life depended on them, tucking most of it in to his vest or tying it to the horses saddle. Hopefully he'd made it in time! Since when did his reliable steed play tricks like that on him!? Oh well, they were at the station now and there was the box car...not many horses left though. Surely his feral stallion hadn't actually run in a faster direction than everyone else took? He supposed that time would tell. Had everyone else already loaded? It was so loud, and the creaks and whistles of the train at rest blocked a lot of his hearing which was bad at the best of times after a nasty fall of a horse as a kid. It wasn't that loud...if it was surely Possum would be more upset. Well...maybe, he was pretty used to noise and strange encounters and took it all in his stride.  Swinging his leg over the saddle and dismounting, he leaned in close to the fat, fuzzy coated kaimanawa for warmth and exhaling clouds of fog. Possum soon joined in, snorting all over his rider and nodding his head vigorously like a mad yearling. The bloody snow pony was enjoying this. He wasn't. He was cold.
Something grabbed the stallion's attention, his stubby, dirty ears pricked forward - a horse and rider loading! So they weren't the first, but they still could be the last. He watched as the pair loaded, the horse with it's head up, ears pricked so far forward they were nearly coming off it's head, then they disappeared in to the box. Guess it was their turn. He gave the stallion a gentle couple of slaps on the neck, "Come on, buddy. It's now or never" he wheezed between icy breaths, "at least it'll be warmer in side" and started forward. Possum followed his rider willingly, eyes half closed but hairy ears alert as they made their way cautiously up the ramp without incident. Greg watched the way the horses ears twitched this way and that, and had to presume that maybe it was a little more noisy than he could hear...maybe he was more deaf than he thought? Ah well no time to find out that now, they had a job to do and that was for now to get on board and meet some of the others. When the horse entered the box, he quickly dragged him to the closest pile of bedding and promptly thumped down on it. Giving in to the suggestion, Greg followed suit and cuddled in against his horses warm belly, arms crossed and hat tipped. Looking around, he tried to recognize the others in the dark compartment from earlier...
