The only way I can tell this is a painting is the eyes.

Lol thanks! I know the eyes leave something to be disired but I'm not SUPPOSED to make it look like a photograph so I just left them... (plus it was 5 am and even I like to rest my eyes every once in a while). Warning: now I'm going to rant about it
The eyes on my others are better but the lighting for this one was super weird and hellishly annoying to try to replicate. And I'll never paint another garden again (unless somebody asks I suppose) because the colors are NUTS. There's like five hundred bajillion different colors in a square inch of that brownish color so I have to go like scale by scale by effing scale!

I did notice the lighting was a bit weird. Not like "omg this doesn't look real" but I was trying to image what kind of environment the snake was in and it was hard.
I noticed all the tiny tiny color differences, and I just about died inside. You have extreme patience. I really admire you.
I think the eyes are fine. They sort of 'pop' to me.
In any case,
I bet this looks better than the original. B]
