I love everything about this... most of all, how happy it makes me feel about myself. I have always been "different" - the way I dressed, how I spoke, how artsy and yet brainy I was... I never was "normal" in other peoples eyes, at least not 40 years ago when I was a kid. I rejoice at the strides we are taking. More and more, we can be accepted and loved just as we are. Thank you for the smile and the hope.

I'm very glad it resonates with you! Kids may be kids, but I hope the excuses they have for rejecting one another continues to shrink over time.

She's a boy, implying the controversy of transgender children in today's world, just as Norman Rockwell's The Problem We All Live With depicted the controversy of integration in the 1960's.

This kid knows what's up. Fashion is not a uniform, it's whatever makes you happy and allows you to express yourself.

It's sad, that we can't practise thisway of life in school. I had all types of haircuts and colors, but ever laugh down and bullied. This society is so boring.

Give it time. Kids will always be little assholes to each other, but the more we normalize our differences the less they can be used as ammunition.

that's ok, people use to say the woman i paint looks like me, but the size of my boobs and eyes are not nearly that big!
Fashionable or not, you are cool!

This kid is my spirit animal.
And it's gorgeous. I especially love how the kid's the only brightly coloured thing in the photo, having this awesome contrast with everything else around him. Like he's the only thing that's real. Awesome job~

I don't agree with you. The kid are as dull as the rest of the image it's only his clothes and colored hair and trunk that is colored in a starker way and that is what this painting is all about, he is getting yelled at for the way he is dressed. that's my interpretation any way.
