Question, how do you do the ambient blow? Do you use an airbrush on an overlay layer or...?

Another layer clipped with luminosity blend. I use airbrush and blur tool.

My best recommendation is to know the 3D shape you're shading(round areas make a gradient like shading while things that are flat get sharp shading) and where the light source is coming from.
