Description Revisioned Mark 2 Version of my CFV in scud modus, slight Saturation tuning in Photoshop, apart from that, real rendering

Took advise to heart, more solid rocket holding things, longer rocket, and some more extra gimmicks on the tank

I have a some nice quotes for this...

Scud Launcher:

SCUD launcher poised to strike
Look at my beautiful weapon
We'll send them running
Their tragedy will come
Something for the masses
Shall I push the button?
The end is here!!!
hehehe run...

C&C Generals FTW!

"Devastation on its way."
"Load the SCUD!"
"Anthrax warhead in place."
"High-explosive warhead in place."
"Sweet ascension of doom."

ain't the missile a stock model of a ballpoint pen?? anyway good work!

Hihi, can't deny it i fear, If id say i modeled after an real scud pic would you break out in laughter? ok, maybe it was a SKETCH of a scud, next time i will try better

The good side is that it should have good flying abilities, judging from my ballpen throwing skills

haha no probs mate, the launcher itself looks awesome!

and i did'nt know about ballpoint pen aerodynamica... maybe the next generation of long range missiles?

Mhh, speaking about rockets, why not mount a rocket engine to a rock! i mean, a rocket got the rock allready innit, doesnt it!

/me patents the idea

the longer the support the more stability in flight So no.. not really, but then again, not really not

When the artillery version is finished and the scene around it i may do a last update (truth be told, i was close to deleting the front 2 rings)

master3d [2008-01-12 16:57:28 +0000 UTC]

with such a short missile, does the support really have to be that long?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

eRe4s3r In reply to master3d [2008-01-12 17:47:29 +0000 UTC]

Not really, see below Next version i will shorten it and make the hydraulics bit more stable, the missile issnt really short though, it has to fit completely inside the vehicle however

yeah I still feel those 8 small pipes wouldn't be stable, many you have to look at truck hydraulics, like with a backloader. [link]

eRe4s3r In reply to master3d [2008-01-13 02:21:14 +0000 UTC]

you got a good point there, considering the missile weights about a ton... I will change the hydraulics to be more solid, including making them a bit armored, as is it is a single stray bullet would...

I guess that means i will overhaul the model another time, can only get better eh?

And thanks for the ideas,

Thanks Its not that l33t a model though, the main factor is just lightning and texture.. the model itself is pretty n00bish imo (didnt put too much effort in it )

Really cool design. I must say though...that with 80,000 polygons on the wheels they are pretty boring...no offence but those polygons are not well spent. Usually these types of vehicles had huge geometry treads don't they? Maybe that is an idea. Really great work though...keep up the great gallery!

Is there a normal map on them?! You could probably get away with 1k for each and normal map most of the detail...

I guess I am coming at it from a "game design" perceptive. What were your original intentions for this project?

Ah, good point about the rubber tires.

It's cool about the late comment.

eRe4s3r In reply to Nyx702 [2008-01-19 00:07:52 +0000 UTC]

Hah, sorry i didnt see this until now The answer is no, although im using normal maps for various things i generally am a "if a procedual shader can do it, thats 10 times better than me doing it" person (the tires you saw in the first sub were merely a placeholder nurb cylinder with some very lame extruding on my part, merely to see where, and how, the tires would fit, heh

I never intented the tires to be rubber to begin with, i wanted a solid steel, armored but suspension based vehicle with spikes and, considering i am thinking of a weight beyond 400 ton, probably wouldnt have a problem to find grip anywhere, rubber based tires dont seem to fit into my "war machine" category

My main incentive here beeing "show off" model, i do what i like to do, and i like looking at what i do

That said, if i had planned on making real tires, i would indeed make a normal map/displacement map mixed go there, that would kill the rendertime but look great I know how to do it, just didnt fit on this model And i honestly forgot it in the first submission but now its all well

For game design, thats something i could be aiming at now, since i could render most things with a normal map function and save insane amount of polygons afterwards, truth be told, in my mind i could see a similiar but fully textured vehicle easily at 2000 or 3000 polygons only, and that would be HQ version ,p

Anyway enough of me talking pointless stuff

eRe4s3r In reply to Nyx702 [2008-01-12 03:29:56 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, i will listen to this idea actually, the reason beeing i totally forgot to model the tires properly, what you see now is only an untextured placeholder.. HAH and i wondered why it looked odd... shesh

80k polygons for 8 tires issnt really bad though, but from a detail perspective, the tires look really crap for 10k polygons each

Will fix all versions sooner or later
