but then i can ask one of my family (= english teacher 
there are more translations possible:
1. Es war ein Regentag.
2. Es regnete an diesem Tag.
3. An diesem Tag regnete es.
the first is maybe the most exactly, but i think that number 2 sounds better Β in german Β ^^
