I must've started this at least a couple weeks ago, and only finally finished it today. I expected it to take long since I was only working on it during breaks at work (totalling anywhere from around 30 to 80 minutes a day, depending on if I was interrupted or finishing stuff up), but I didn't expect it would take THIS long.
This is Hotsuma from Shinobi on the PS2. I'm not exactly a fan of the game (I like it, but I don't love it), but I do really like this character design.
Since I've already done most of my own characters in pixel art recently, I figured I'd do some other character this time. I wanted to do Gene from God Hand next, but I'm too lazy to grab the reference pictures and stuff now. And after doing this one, I remembered how annoying and restrictive it is working from references and characters that aren't your own. Not sure I'll get to him.
The scarf was the last part I did on this, and I lazied out on the shading of it. I'm happy with the overall sprite though. Oh yeah, and I've been playing a little Samurai Shodown Anthology and just now noticed that Hotsuma reminds me of Hanzo.

Nice. I agree with the previous poster about the scarf, even if you diodn't plan it that way, I think it adds something to the design.

Thanks. There are actually some official renders/art of the character with a gradient-like thing on his scarf (even though it's not on the actual game model). That's the only reason I did it and don't feel TOO bad about it.

I'm clueless about the official character. I'm still console game inept even though my teenager spent all her saved money to get xbox360, wii and ps2 this past year. She was even just making fun of how fail I am at ever finishing games.
Anyway, you shouldn't feel bad, it looks great.

Console games only? Then do you play PC games?
I generally try to finish all the games I buy (and I've bought a LOT). Since I spent the money on it, I kinda feel obligated to finish them.

The only PC game I really even play is City of Heroes and even with that I seem to have to carve out time to actually get anywhere with it.
Perhaps all this stems from all those games of Asteroids on the Atari where I would never get a turn worth diddly because my brother was better at it.

I knew I remembered City of Heroes for some reason (wasn't the character you drew with mine your character in that game?). So I wondered if you played any other PC games.
I only play console games. I don't like using the keyboard and mouse for games, and I often had troubles with running or installing the PC games I tried years ago. Turned me away from it.

Yeah, that character was from that game. I couldn't run it at first because my computer was too slow so I had to wait until I got a new PC. I had a game controller but I just got lazy and went back to the keyboard anyway. My CAPSLOCK gets accidentally turned on a lot.
