Well done! You've given him that ghostly image quality that only clever use of pastel shading can really create - makes the subject look like he/she should be a movie star, whether they are or not Beautiful.

sickeningly brilliant as usual. im not saying out of sheer ignorance, but i do believe like others before me, that your skill and talent outshines in the top 3% of DA. but thats okay cause im at the bottom 3% T_T not THAT far away... *creeps back to hole*
the work and style almost looks like that doen for the posters for starwars movies... i forgot the name of that masterful dude.. rich colours of all range and palatte/hue but still warm and vibrant... but hes is notably sketchy.. trademark style!

Hey..... u r in that 3% as well, dude! Mmm ... Drew Struzan is one of the most inspiring artist of all time. I'd collect some of his star wars poster too, u could check on his site, it's amazing! The site: [link]

Well, that certainly is a very warm pallette your working with there! That bit of blue really helps to keep it from being difficult to look at. You did an excellent job capturing his likeness. You managed to capture all the detail of his face while still keeping it nice and smooth. You may think your technique isn't matured, but I think it's definately well on its way.

you captured him very well, down to the glistening sheen over his face, every muscle and groove. good job!
by the way, the pastel colors you used are very vibrant, which is quite rare. really cool. did you use oil pastels or chalk pastels?

ericfoo In reply to lukavi [2003-10-11 02:03:12 +0000 UTC]
Most of the pastel is done using chalk pastel, i found that oil pastel is kinda difficult 2 do details, unless we want the outcome is sketchy and rough... thanx again for comment!!

o_O ....* ....... *BANG BANG BANG BANG* <-- Just my head against the wall, don't worry. I do that when I can't figure out how so much amazing talent can come out of a person and be put down on paper. You're so freaking amazing I could barf. I'm inspired and jealous and in awe all at once. I have a pastel-imparment (can't do them to save my life) so this piece is specially impressive to me. I just keep staring at it. How did you get those colors??? *BANG BANG BANG* This is photorealistic while maintaining a painterly, almost watercolor feel, esp. around the edges. Your illustrative capabilities far eclipse the majority of talent on DA. This brillant portrait is proof of that. I'll prove to you how much I love this by faving it (something I only reserve for pics that are beyond special to me). Now excuse me, I have to go wipe up the drool of my keyboard and continue my jealous head banging.

The only tip I have for oil painting is this: look online. I can't believe how much stuff is out there for oil artists! Just use a search engine like google and type "tips on painting animal fur" or whatever, and you'll have to spend hours going thru the plethora of awesome information out there. ^_^

ooh..this is cool! I really like the colors and the eyes are just amazing!
The only thing I can say looks "funny" are the highlights on the face, I don't know they look kind of uhh, splotchy, to me. But since its such a cool piece, even that doesn't detract from it for me.
Umm, also have a dumb question. The blue half circle in the bottom right corner...what is that?? Just can't seem to figure it out.

Wow... sharp observation!! i actually spoil on his face at the first layer... , i had tried very hard to cover it, but still can't escape from your amazing observation..
The original piece is slightly larger, but i found the blue area at the bottom right is weird, so i just crop it....
, thanx for the comment, i really appreciate it!! lov ya!!

Hey.... thanx for the commet, i had experiment on different medium about lighting... of course with books refer to. i like this book a lot: Learning to Light: Easy and Affordable Techniques for the Photographer by Roger Hicks, Frances Schultz. and most of the technique is inspired from the star wars artist Drew Struzan, he is master!!
