The statue is very cool. Looks like the man is just looking at his black reflection as if he can't tell how he got there, what made him important enough. The water is almost like the people that know why he's there, but he can't move or he'll sink into confusion. The duck won't, because ducks can swim. But even the duck won't know. It's like his only companion on a tiny island.
Cool shot. The black-and-white colors just make it look all the more serious and, well, epic.

Thanks for your very nice and perceptive comment! The decision to connect the picture with the song (which is one of my all-time favourites) was taken more or less intuitively, but your words show me that the decision was well-founded anyway.
The statue is actually part of a group of three, but they're so far apart that it's very easy to miss the other two. One of the others is stuck against a house in a way that's almost as alienating as the position as this statue. So, solitude and isolation seem a major theme of it.

Well, if you ever come to Amiens, just walk away form the north side of the cathedral down to for the medieval harbour (more like a little square now) and cross the main road to the canal, and there you should see at least two.
