The Blood Angels were the IX Space Marine Legion that the Emperor created for his Great Crusade. His Primarch was Sanguinius, and his homeworld is Baal.

In combat, the Blood Angels Legion was the embodiment of the Emperor's wrath towards those who rejected the gift of Unity. Led by their angelic Primarch Sanguinius, their coming was nothing short of an apocalyptic judgment delivered on the guilty from on high, and descending from the heavens on wings of fire, the Legion conquered lost human worlds by both their unearthly fury and terror. and the shock it engendered. Entire nations fell to their knees, cowed by the fury and splendor of these "red angels", fearing they would perish under the shining blades of the Space Marines. The xenos were not given this quarter, and the Legion's wrath manifested as a tide of relentless carnage that only subsided after absolute extermination was achieved.

However, during the Horus Heresy they suffered a major blow: the loss of their angelic father at the hands of the Warmaster Horus during the Battle of Terra. His death was so terrible that it left a scar on each and every member of the Legion, and ever since that dark day, it is whispered that the Blood Angels carry a terrible curse in their blood.
