I've always thought, that mermaid and similiar creatures would be disgusting in real life. Think of how different their skin would have to be in order to not wrinkle like ours after being long periods of time underwater. And of what I've recently herd, underwater...err...intimicy doesn't feel that good (or at all) when the water pressure surpasses the pressure of physical contact, which may explain why Zoras has, despite their mammal-like features, different mating habbits than us humans/them Hylians. Then again, I'm yet to hear about organic system, that can breath both in the air and underwater, and I'm not entirely sure how well an ear could hear under both conditions, either. If those doesn't make sense, then I doubt their other physical features and abilities would have to make sense, either.
Thus to concluide my thoughts, what Link could be doing here with Ruto is, in actuality, plausible nonsense. Not anything that a real human being should fantasize about, but nothing, that a fictional Hylian guy should worry about, either.
