My one issue is the SR-71 is a spy plane. I mean, yes it looks awesome, but the reason Hellsing used it was because it could fly at 90,000 feet at mach 4 or 5, which is well above any anti-aircraft capability and faster than missiles can fly. Using it to chase down much of anything at low altitude is a test of patience along the line of shooting off the wings of a fly with a howitzer. It doesn't help any that SR-71s aren't actually armed with anything.
That, and a nice regular jet doesn't stand out anywhere near as much. Although anything that does what this blackbird does obviously isn't a regular plane...

The reason they used an extra-fast plane was to get across the Atlantic Ocean as quickly as possible. And considering who one of the passengers is, guns would be redundant

Yeah, the one problem with SR-71s is they don't make them anymore (they only made 32, and 12 of them were destroyed due to accidents). Most of them were retired by 1999, and most meuseums or collectors wouldn't be very keen on loaning one of those out to somebody who already destroyed one. Even less, since it's an American reconnaissance plane, and it's the British Crown trying to use it.
Granted, given the subject matter of "99" it does make sense that Hellsing would have one of these things. Flying from London to New York in under two hours (with inflight refueling) is something that could be considered "operationally useful". Still, given the fact that Hellsing already destroyed one of them, I think they'd be more likely to get a hold of an Aurora aircraft than another Blackbird.

Easily recognizable. Isn't Hellsing the only organization who owns that plane?

Since it's NYC i have to ask if a certain group that lives up in Westchester owns that plane?
