Description What up folks? Thanks first of all for all the fun and flattering comments with the last few entries!! I'll run by a few in a moment!

Here we have a scene from the DD, fresh from the oven. Well no rendered a few days ago actually. Part 1 is crazy though, with the crowd. Parts 2 and 3 will be easier to render!

For the rest nothing much here, just rendering rendering rendering rendering rendering rendering rendering rendering rendering rendering rendering rendering rendering rendering rendering rendering rendering rendering and... rendering rendering rendering rendering...

I'm so happy I have no more software and power problems anymore. And good news on the side of Poser, it seems they have actually listened to us and implemented very good and useful new features, even an INJ maker. If is also works properly I'll finally be able to start making better Lali Bits updates and also proceed with Project E without having to grow grey hairs and loose out on comic-making!

Hey Ero, have you ever considered using low-poly figures for background characters? Kinda like they do in cartoon animation nowadays. Each tier of characters would have a certain level of detail based on how important they are to the scene. For instance if I was to do a giant group of people like this, as I fill in the scene far back-up front I may start with 3rd generation or even 2nd generation models and work my way up to Gn2 or Gn3. Or if you don't wanna lose the level of detail render them in pieces, and then layer them via photoshop or the gimp. Dreamlight has a great render masking tool addon, though I don't know if it works in Poser.

hehe that's exactly what you're looking at. The six girls are full-on project E, the guys and girls behind them are Mil4, the people in the back are a mix of P3DA's lowres people and people I ripped from PC games. Some of them are also poly-reduced Mil4 people, done in Poser! Rendering in layers is definitely an option, but it would take probably more time to coodinate the entire scene, which would be crazy. Plus you'd loose the depth information useful for the volumetrics!

Its going ok like it is, just slow. But I have a load of other projects running on other PCs. I just lost a load of time working on Project E all this year.

Well, great minds think alike and all that... mine tend to look more like classic Western comic book illustrations because of all the hell I put them through in photoshop, but I can totally see what you mean by the depth of information that gets lost. Good point.

Even so, that many figures and details in a scene is still a hell of a lot of poly's!

GD-it! Every time I check messages, I see ads with V7's sexy bosom & face staring at me. I really don't mind the sight, but with the timing this further drives the point - "You can't do what the fuck you want to do right now, but LOOK! V7!"

I have a lot of friends that use DS, and they use it to effect. DS is definitely a good piece of software, and you must download it and give it a try. If you can afford it, also give Genesis a try. Its not a bad concept at all. But from my own experience, Poser just has the edge, even though its currently enormously buggy. It was built for efficiency, huge scenes, easy rigging, and the material editor gives you infinite freedom. At best you could say that the idea is there, all the best things from 3D apps such as Max and Maya are there, it just needs the finishing touches. I believe (hope) that the new version will have all the old bugs sorted. In that case, Poser will be a monster application. The only problem is that it is up to you to get a good figure going in it... unless Poser comes with a good figure this time round. And if not, then I'll have to do it.

What is a big shame about this whole Poser-DS war, is that both companies are doing very interesting things, but the one is clearly sidelining a whole customer base (and forcing the other side to do the same). That in itself is a good reason to avoid DAZ entirely. Also, DAZ has changed their technology around so much these last few years, they're not very reliable at all. We cannot expect Poser to follow suit. DAZ very good at marketing and seducing you with easy fixes. As far as I know, art is not about easy fixes. Art is an expression of the mind, and the mind is not an easy thing. And when made easier, the frontiers shift... I'm not seeing that happen with DAZ yet.

But ultimately art is about freedom of mind. You don't need either Poser or DAZ to express this. We all know artists that can make better art than any one of us 3D artists combined just using a pencil. Well, Poser is my pencil, it fits comfortably in my hand, its not as good as other apps, but I can tell a story with it. I'm sure DS is the same for others. Nothing else matters.

nakedfunn In reply to erogenesisCGI [2015-09-25 02:02:52 +0000 UTC]

It is a tricky balance for me. Poser has consistently offered better at what I want in a ready made 3d modeling program, where as DAZ has consistently offered better with what I want of a model, and accessories.
Traditionally this competition has benefited us as consumers, but with hard lines drawn times have changed, and tension has risen. Ultimately I can't use V7 which leaves me jealous of all that I'm seeing. I also can't abandon Poser because that is my home base program of choice with so much comfort in use, and investment.
I agree with you about DAZ's changing technology which leaves us cold, and bitter but I respect their need to innovate.
I'm hoping that Poser will bridge this gap, and offer models as sublime in design and function.

erogenesisCGI In reply to nakedfunn [2015-09-25 02:21:16 +0000 UTC]

Indeed I was also jealous of seeing all those new and gorgeous DAZ products flying around my ears, while I've been dying to release some nice Poser products for months but couldn't because Poser just wasn't up to it. But the guys at Smith Micro have listened, they kicked out their old manager and replaced him with a dude that actually listens. And it shows: an INJ maker that should have been there years ago! among other things. There might be hope yet.

But regarding the whole figure circus, that might be a different story. Poser has rarely come with very interesting figures, it would be a miracle if they did now. I don't care too much about their figures in any case, since I make my own now (or manipulate my own), but it would relieve the pressure off me if they did come with a good figure now.

I'm in two ways about it though, since my focus is on making comics and not the whole content thing, yet content makes more money. Lali's Bits and Project E were always purely made for comic work rather than store items. Yet I know I can make many folks happy with some of the content I make. Poser for me is definitely more of a comic-production machine than anything else, and max & zBrush is where all the magic happens. Honestly, if you want freedom and want to approach that what you have in your mind, learn to model. It takes some time to learn but its fucking worth it! I know you've started, so don't stop!

nakedfunn In reply to erogenesisCGI [2015-09-25 02:45:59 +0000 UTC]

I'd be so much happier with zbrush, but I'm hoping the new Poser morphing tools at least allow me to do what I want - make the precious bends, wrinkles and subtle details (the way I want) that I've literally dreamed about for years.

I don't know if you've seen the old Boris Vallejo comic cover art  paintings from the 70's, 80's, and 90's but I actually want to re-create similar to that, or the kind of detail he put into it.

hm! those are some nice examples to strive for. I'll do my best on my side.

yeah I know BV very well, grew up with his shit practically! As well as that dude Olivia and the other dude Manara.

Hm I'm not sure that the Poser morphing tools will provide such accuracy, but you never know. If the symmetry thing works nicely, yeah ok THEN we're talking! But off course the model needs to be symmetrical too. That's not always the case. Even V4 is not entirely symmetrical.
