Description

Dad got me a computer tablet!! I had one years ago but it broke DX So I'm getting used to using one again.

I had a bash at drawing with it on MS Paint, and this was the result. Took me over an hour on the computer. Would have taken 5 minutes with my hands. Computers do NOT make things faster XP At least not at first!

Yeah, I've done bits and pieces since this but I want to try and keep working on it.

Ah, I know your preference is digital art, but the more you do digital stuff, the faster you get. It helps when you have a program that's better equipped for drawing than MS Paint is (though you did very well with it!)

Here are some cool free ones to check out.
www.getpaint.net/ Paint.NET, if you're looking for something more similar to MS Paint, but with more features. However, there's no pressure sensitivity for your tablet with this program. It might be coming in the upcoming 4.0 version
mypaint.intilinux.com/ MyPaint, gives you an uncluttered interface, brushes that emulate traditional art, and an infinite canvas! I recommend this one!
krita.org/ Krita - A more powerful program than MyPaint, this might be a bit hard to get used to at first if you're new to digital art, but there are a lot of traditional brushes for this one too!
www.gimp.org - GIMP, one of the more popular free image editing programs, think of it an alternative to Photoshop. I HIGHLY recommend downloading GIMP 2.6 as the current version, 2.8, is really finicky when it comes to pressure sensivity in tablets.

When it comes to paid programs, Photoshop miiiight be a bit much for a beginner and isn't inherently intended for art, more for image editing (and pricey too, sheesh, but if you want to get it, Photoshop Elements should serve you just fine). The current "preferred" art program that isn't Photoshop is Paint Tool SAI. It's lightweight, also has more traditional brush options (and PLENTY of brushes made by other people can be put into the program), it's relatively cheap and drawing with it on a tablet is smoooooooooth. You can get an English version either through the creatorsas their official translation or from a fan translation . Both give you a 30 day trial to get acclimated to the program, but if you go past that without buying the license, you lose the ability to open existing files and to save your stuff.

You can also use these kinds of programs (well, besides MyPaint) to improve the quality of your scanned drawings...or you can use them to clean up lineart and do digital coloring! And that's it for my spiel, haahha

Yeah, I'm still at experimenting stage right now. My Dad's set up a more advanced drawing programme on my laptop (can't remember what it's called now), and he likes to play with it now and again.
But still overall I stick with my hands and traditional methods. At least until I've practised on the computer enough

I prefer it too! I think if I practise and learn my way around computer drawing it'll be a good skill to have, but nothing beats the feeling of drawing with just a pencil and paper. It's so much more natural.
