I had not really draw a dragon picture befors I work with the whole dragon picture, with this head is apart of. It took perhaps 100 Drawing.

I use a similar technique, though I add concentric arcs between top and bottom jaws to make sure the teeth line up properly.  I also lightly block in the back angle of the mandible with the hinge and temporal crest, so that I get the gape far enough forward to look right.
This is a nice way to block in the head to help get the perspective right from different angles.  Very helpful for people leaning to draw dragons.  I'll have to look up your book.
