I actually saw Crimson Peak last weekend and I adored it! It's just the sort of camp I love-
High emotion, gorgeous set design, gorgeous costumes, intensity, passion, a bit of insanity for spice- all the good stuff!

It was a good movie, though more Thriller than Horror.

So, since you know my own tastes in period fashion, would you recommend this film, even though I'm not really a horror fan?

Maybee...it never goes full blown big dress (from what I recall) but there are some very good ones. Jessica Chastain's are particularly nice as well and Hiddleson's always fun to watch. It's got atmosphere up the wazoo. Don't know if I'd really call it a horror film..it's not scary...violent at times, but very beautiful at others. I went with my Mom and she enjoyed it(though she did look away at the gory parts) Google search some of the fashion to see.
It's a love letter to Hammer Horror and the Corman Poe films and in that aspect it succeeds brilliantly.

Yeah, it looks like it takes place a decade over so after the hayday of the crinoline gown, so I'm not surprised there aren't any really big ones. Still, late 19th century ladies' fashion is certainly still very nice! What it lacks if skirt poof, it often makes up for in shoulder poof!

I REALLY wanted to draw her dancing dress, but there's no reference for it.

It doesn't have to be scary to be good. True it's being misadvertised as a terrifying film, but it's still good.
