I call it wimpy lazy shading! : D
Btw, does anyone have any suggestions of what I can do with the background. You know, besides leaving it white all the time? ^^ ;;

Umm! Right now are you scanning sketches in and then reoutlining in pen tool? Or just drawing directly with that tablet?! O:
Also if you want to gradually transition to backgrounds you can first do some abstract color, like triangles or swirls or stuff like that. Otherwise you might have to actually start planning with composition and stuff like that, and that's just. Well. That's efforty. 8'D

That's what I was starting to think about doing for the background--just starting off simple with solid colors/shapes and such. I shall try that next time. : D
Actually, Gaia has a few items with that abstract swirly shaped background. Hmmm...
