Description Happy belated birthday, Arianna! I hope you like it.

The lovely young lady on the right is Erin Blogger from WhiteLadyDragon 's Death Note fanfics, The Story of the Century and And the Story Continues. In this charcoal drawing, Erin sits somewhere, presumably in a coffee shop, contemplating the aftermath of the Kira Case. I transposed L's reflection over Erin's for an eerie effect. In my mind, he still haunts her.

The song "Caught" by Florence + the Machine fits this scenario well. You can listen to it here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=b53IHo…

Time spent: 10 hours
Medium: Charcoal and conte

OH. MY. STARS.

Somehow I completely forgot that you were making this; my head's not been in a good place these past few days. But wowie! This is very unique, creepy and just plain beautiful all around like the song you linked the picture to. Thank you so much, friend! I'm so sorry I didn't get you anything for your birthday...

You'd be correct. Even 4 years later, Erin does still think a lot about L, and it takes a toll on her mental health and her relationships with other people. I'm curious, what was your reasoning for choosing the song that you did? I'm afraid I'm not familiar with Florence and The Machine.

Thanks for all the lovely compliments! You're very welcome, and sorry it's taken me so long to reply.

I chose the song mostly because of the lyrics. It's my favorite band, but the lyrics themselves speak to Erin's memory of L, specifically:

"It's the hardest thing I've ever had to do
To try and keep from calling you
Well, can my dreams keep coming true
How can they, cause when I sleep
I never dream of you

As if the dream of you, it sleeps too
But it never slips away
It just gains its strength and digs its hooks
To drag me through the day

And I'm caught
I forget all that I've been taught
I can't keep calm, I can't keep still
Pulled apart against my will

It's the hardest thing I've ever had to prove
You turn to salt as I turned around to look at you
Old friends have said, the books I've read
Say it's the thing to do
But it's hard to see it when you're in it
Cause I went blind for you

Then you leave my head and crawl out of bed
Subconscious [?]
And for those hours deep in the dark
Perhaps you don't exist"

I think the song itself plays with memory, specifically of those who exit your life suddenly--to the point where you're questioning their existence.

Oh, Erin...what beautiful lyrics.

Thank you again as always! That reminds me, I need to call you before Christmas. Do not let me forget.
