I was awoken by a loud pounding on my door. Forcing my eyes to open, I fumbled about for my glasses. I'm basically blind without them. Papa smurf calls it "high congenial myopia", or "very nearsighted from birth." I call it a pain in the smurf. I found them and put them on, not even stabbing myself in the eye. I lighted a match and touched the flame to a candle wick, lighting it. With the light from the candle, I checked the time. 5:33. Smurf me. There's only one smurf I know that gets up at this unsmurfy hour. Grumbling a little from the lack of sleep, I walk to the front door of my one- bedroom mushroom house. Bracing myself for a dumb question of some sort, I open the door. Sure enough, there he was: Clumsy Smurf. Complete with baggy trousers, floppy hat, large, awkward feet and longish awkward limbs to match. He had a big grin on his face that stretched almost ear to ear. "Hiya, Brainy!" he said happily.

And such is the opening paragraph which begins act 1 of *dragonmastrcrashrokz 's brilliant Smurf fanfiction, The Clumsy Project.

This is my contest entry for her smurfy contest, in which we are to draw a scene from the fanfiction.

This certainly isn't my favourite scene, but I chose this scene because:
It is one I could picture in my mind clearly exactly how I wanted it
Upon reading The Clumsy Project for the first time, I remember picturing this scene specifically.
Though seemingly insignificant, this is actually an important scene; it is the scene-setter, the introductory image. It's that scene where everything's happy and fine before all of the events start to unfold. The moment of oblivion, when you have no idea what's coming your way; it just seems like another day, even though everything is about to change.

Perhaps, also, this is an image that will be etched into Brainy from this fanfiction's mind for some time to come: him opening the door to his smiling, faithful friend, bright and early in the morning, when everything was fine, nothing was wrong.

If anyone has any suggestions on how I can improve my "smurf anatomy", then please, let me know!
