Description

...at the end of their Cold War analogue, roughly 1990 AD.

A rough setting I’ve built up slowly over the years to be the backdrop for some Planetary Romance I want to write. Has a rough, indeterminate Point of Divergence starting from the late 19th century (Lenin and Stalin go away, maybe such things as no Jim Crow/longer, stronger reconstruction, etc., leading to no U.S.S.R, P.R.C, NSDAP and so on). The conflict that took up most of the 20th century between the Latin League, Germanic-Anglo Bund, and Great Khaganate is coming to an end with the reformation of the League and the isolation of the Khaganate, and the current state of the world is shown here between blocs/alliances, nations, and their flags.

I’ve made and posted a few of these flags before, or at least some variant I recycled for this. I would love to more make proper 1200x800 flags, especially for some of the complex ones, but I don’t have the programs/time right now.

Legend:

Red: Great Khaganate (stylized black ‘U’ or bow on gold field). Occupies the de-jure regions/polities of Mongolia (gold sun and moon on a red field), Turan (white wolf’s head on a blue field), and Siberia (stylized gold bow on a red field) and is allied with Magyarorszag/Hungary (red field with white diamond and stylized green bow).

Orange: Bharata (plain orange field), composed of Aryavarta (bicolor triband of orange and white defaced with a black bar, known as the ‘tiger flag/tiger[‘s] stripe flag) and Dravida Nadu (black and red defaced with a red and black Ibex/Nilgiri Tahr facing the viewer).

Yellow: African Union (‘bar’ flag of red-white-green-black-) composed of Central Africa/Nzere (red and green cut diagonally with a gold bar), East Africa/Azania (green-gold-red), and New Africa (green and red defaced with a gold chevron).

Green: Tianxia/Huaxia/Zhongguo/China (red field with two gold circles, red square and gold square). Future developments might include releasing Tibet and Burma back to associated states.

Dark Green: Bedaya (white dove on a green field), composed of Mashriq/Arabia (red, white, and green with a black triangle), Misr/Egypt (red, white, and black with a green triangle), and Mahgreb (black, white, and green with a red triangle).

Teal: Hanguk/Korea, a red and blue Taegeuk on a white field.

Blue: Anglosphere (Golden eagle on blue field) – composed of the North American Republic (blue star fimbriated with white on a red field), Britain (gold chariot & horse on a blue field), Eire/Ireland (gold harp on a green field), Australasia (red kangaroo and emu, fimbriated with white on a blue field), and Antarctica (white penguin on a blue field).

Dark blue: Slavonia (three black bears facing towards the fly on a black ground upon a red field and a black star in the upper sinister canton) and the associated state of Baltica (gold stalk of wheat on a red field).

Light Purple: Latin League allies, specifically Hellas (gold vergina star on a red field), Dalmatia (white and red, checkered), Arbenesh/Albania (black double-headed eagle on a red field), Sakartvelo/Georgia (red and black opposite of black and red), Iran (gold eagle on purple field).

Purple: Latin League (White-Purple-White vertical bicolor triband) composed of Romania (purple-gold-purple vertical triband), with the associated state of Euskal Herria/Basque Country (interlocked gold chains surrounding a embodied emerald in gold on a red field), Mesoamerica (red star on a black field), with the associated state of Antillia (gold half-star on red over blue), Cantisuyu (red-white-red vertical triband with a gold inti), Amazonia (blue bar over gold diamond over a green field), Platagonia (blue-white-blue vertical triband with a gold inti), Colombia/Bolivia America (red star over gold, blue, and red).

White: Negara Agung (gold star and laurels on a red field) composed of Nusantara (gold star on red over white), Pacifica (white stylized catamaran over white waves on a blue field), Vietnam (white stylized lotus on a red field) and Mueang Thai (gold sala on a red field).

Light Grey: Nippon/Japan (red sun on a white field).

Dark Grey: Nordo-Germanic Pact (red Aegishjalmr/helmet of awe on a black field), composed of Deutschland (gold eagle on a red field), Scandinavia (two black ravens facing each other on a blue field) and the associated state of Suomi-Sapmi/Finland-Sapmi (white tree on a white hill on a blue field).

The flag in the corner is the 'human' flag, a gold, stylized human leaving (a gold) Earth to the stars.
