Quick question...when you do a sketch, do you just use one pencil? I see that you work one section at a time so I'll have to try and do that instead of doing one whole layer for each shade etc.

I actually use about 10 different types of pencils! (little bit of exaggeration there )- i usually use 2H, then 2B... they're the ones i use the most, then for really dark areas i use 4B and sometimes 6B. I use mechanical pencils for sharp lines and small details.
I start by doing one base layer for the skin tones, then erasing the highlights of the skin and adding in shadows. The skin tone is the only part in the sketch which i use layers for, the rest i divide into sections.
